A heavy fog had descended upon the waters, shrouding the rocky shore from view. Thunder rumbled warningly in the distance and Nino blinked from underneath the awning, watching the stars and tracing their patterns with his eyes as the water lapped gently against the vessel. He was alone, he knew. Below him, under the deck, he'd left his and Adrien's shared quarters to slip out for a breath of night air and a chance to clear his head.
He sighed, leaning against the railing and holding his cap firmly against his head as the ocean breeze rustled at his hair and his clothes. It was so peaceful out here. Alone. Just him and nature. In the distance, he could see lightning tear across the heavens. But it wasn't near and the boat was traveling away from it at a pretty significant pace. He didn't think there was anything to worry about.
Not yet, anyway.
He shivered slightly, glancing toward the mountains as they drifted lazily past and the faded moonlight shimmering across the ocean's surface. It was so quiet. Maybe a little too quiet. It wasn't at all like Paris with its bustling lights and consistent noise and he wasn't sure he liked it. The others seemed to be fine with it, all sound asleep without a care in the world. Even Wayzz appeared unconcerned, at least from first appearances. But something about the stillness was unsettling. It gave his fears and uncertainties a chance to crawl back to the surface. But most of all, the question of; why?
Why now? After all this time, why was he now just beginning to remember things of his childhood--of practically an entirely different life?
"I don't know I'll ask lorr after this"
Why did Wayzz seem so concerned whenever the topic of meeting the Guardians was brought up? (Granted, he'd tried to keep his emotions a secret, but he wasn't a very good actor. That was another thing he and Nino had in common).
And of course, the most important question; what did any of this have to do with him? He was just an ordinary kid, wasn't he? What could anything that was happening have to do with him? It didn't make sense and surely it couldn't be real, could it?
"It is real and being a superhero doesn't mean you are a normal kid" Wyan whispered to Nino who only nodded
And now they were on their way to a secluded portion of a distant country with little more to go on than that the Guild--the center of all Miraculous knowledge--was hidden somewhere supposedly in plain sight.
How could it be hidden in plain sight if no one had ever seen it before?
Even the girls leading them to the Temple had never set foot inside. No one had. Not in almost two centuries. That's what Wayzz had told him and if anyone would know, it would be him. After all, he was the only one of them who had been around to see it. His word was all there was and they were trusting him to guide them exactly where they needed to go.
"I never knew why we could never step inside"
"Oooohhh, you're looking super thoughtful. How awful for you."
"Trixxx" Alya groaned
He started, glancing over at the railing as a blur of orange sat down next to him to fiddle with a kink in his tail fur, his violet eyes glowing ominously in the briefest flashes of lightning.
"Oh, hey, Trixx," he said softly, leaning on a hand to watch the fox kwami tiredly. "Why are you still up?"
"If your tired - which you still are - go to bed" Nicholas told Nino who was defiantly still tired
