As Bif walked into the Harrington House with a slight slam at the door, he was suddenly shushed by his chaps. Bif realized what they had been doing. All the Preps were lined up, sitting on their knees. They had all been praying. Derby's father had made them start praying and doing religious things, considering the huge rumble they'd recently had with the Greasers. They all had to refresh their minds of the 'bad vibes'. "Bif. Join us." Derby whispered, closing his eyes to continue the prayer. Bif sighed softly as he strolled over to the line of Preps. They all had their eyes shut and hands in a prayer gesture. This wasn't their first time doing this, but it had been Bif's first. He sat somewhat crookedly, but the others sat perfectly straight. "Alright, everyone. That's enough for today." Derby spoke, breaking the ear-ringing silence. Suddenly, everyone said an in sync 'Amen'. Bif was utterly confused, and he kinda wanted everything to just go back to normal. All the Preps stood up and started doing normal things then. "I apologize that you missed most of it, but we're going to do this everyday after school. My father wants to keep us with a healthy mindset." Derby approached Bif from behind. Bif swiftly turned around, nodding slightly. Derby then walked away, starting a conversation with another Prep. Bif decided to leave the house and take a walk around the school to refresh his mind. It was breezy as the golden sky started to grow dark.
The next day, Bif sat down at the fountain, reading a book, until he heard the snickering of his friends. He looked up to see Gord and Tad, poking fun at Cornelius. He shut his book and walked up to the two. "What are you guys doing?" Bif asked. "You see that nerd over there? Apparently he's gay." Tad sneered. "Okay..?" Bif mumbled. "Bif, do you not know how much of a sin it is to be homosexual?" Gord snapped. Bif's eyes narrowed as his heart dropped to his stomach. "I have to go now, ciao!" Tad chuckled, walking away. "Gord, weren't you interested in guys...?" Bif whispered as he watched Tad walk away. "That was in the past. It was a phase. A phase I regret. And if you're feeling those feelings I suggest you pray more." Gord spoke sharply as he walked away from Bif, who stood there tensely. If Derby were to ever find out he was gay, or even liked him, he'd send him to the deepest chambers of hell. The thoughts gnawed at Bif the whole day as he sat in his classes uncomfortably. He noticed Derby was staring at him throughout the day, until he finally stopped him. "Bif. Can we talk?" Derby walked up to Bif with his hands behind his back. Bif hesitated to speak at first, but he felt Derby's piercing eyes staring at him as he looked to the ground. "Sure." Bif gulped. He then followed Derby to the Harrington House, and up to a floor where there were no other Preps. Tension in the room built up as Derby sat in one of the folding chairs. "So. I heard from Gord that you might be, confused." Derby alleged, resting his hands on his lap. "Confused..?" Bif laughed awkwardly. He felt sweat glands, growing on his back. "You know what I'm talking about." Derby quickly snapped back. All Bif did was stare at the blond stupidly. He knew exactly what Derby was talking about, but played dumb. Which wouldn't get him far, Derby would end up finding a pressure point. "So. Are you?" Derby spoke, breaking the staring contest the two had going on. "Of course not." Bif sputtered. Derby narrowed his eyes at his redhead friend. He could read him like a magazine. "Alright. But, let's do a quick prayer just to be safe." Derby insisted. Bif internally sighed as him and Derby walked downstairs to the fireplace on the first level. They both sat on their knees in front of the fireplace. There was a cross above it, which Bif stared at. "Close your eyes." Derby demanded. Bif quickly shut his eyes as the blond barked at him. There was a stinging sensation in Bif's throat, which made tears trickled down his cheeks. He was sitting here, praying with his lover, and swore he wasn't gay. He felt the Devil's heat from the fireplace, swallowing him whole. "Look at me Bif." Derby hummed. Bif slowly fluttered his eyes open to see Derby facing him. He quickly wiped his eyes, turning to Derby. Both boys faced each other now. "You need to promise me you're not gay. You'll get married to a beautiful woman." Derby muttered. Bif stared at his thighs. He didn't want to be gay. He wanted to get married to a woman. But Derby's charming looks and his snappy personality made Bif fall into a trance. Derby would end up marrying one of his cousins anyway. It tugged at his heartstrings, knowing Derby would never return the feelings Bif has for him. Suddenly, Derby had tapped Bif's forehead, then his chest and shoulders. "Don't break the promise, Bif." Derby whispered, standing up. Bif stood up after Derby, gulping. He was lying straight to his face, and Derby probably knows. Bif then exited the House. He went to the boys dorm, which he rarely went to. He entered his room and sat down on the bed with satin sheets. The floorboards creaked as Bif tapped his foot obnoxiously. How was he going to hide these feelings from his friends, or Derby? Bif felt more steaming tears, growing in his emerald eyes.
