Audio Log 6, 7:46: Okey-dokey, thermite didn't work. I'm not gonna say what happened, but I will say that there's a good reason that NASA doesn't really like fire in space, much less thermite. I just had a productive breakfast, half food and half regret, so I'm going to think about getting under the ice a different way. So admittedly, I think that it was obvious from the start that I should have just found a preexisting way down, but that could be dicey too, as the ocean is covered by a lot of ice and probably some other shit too. I do have one idea though, the Chesspeek nuclear shelter, constructed for fear of bombs that had the potential to devastate Michigan*, goes incredibly deep into the ground, has a sealed environment, a thorium nuclear reactor, pre-grown fruits and vegetables, and a possible entrance to the life below the frozen world. If I could get there, I could live pretty damn long compared to the twenty years and counting (down) that I have here in this hole full of rotting corpses and uranium.
10:21, the next day. Sammy loaded everything into the rover, making sure to treat the reactor with excessive care. She could make it all the way to sanctuary, but she would have to circumnavigate both the decrepit city remains and the frozen mountains, a difficult task in the rover, but doable nonetheless.
*like the one I excavated from the town square.
