Le flashback

"Mom."

"Yes dear."

"Dad said my book wasn't real. He said that nothing that I read was real."

7 year old Alira showed her mother her book. She looked up to the older woman with teary eyes.

"Oh my. Your father is a real stick in the mud, isn't he." Your mother laughed.

"He is!" Alira pouted.

"Well, I can't say for sure whether anything in this book is real. How about I tell you a tale my mother told me long ago about this book?"

Alira's eyes sparkled.

"Yes please!" She excitedly bounced up and down.

"Alright. Come sit in my lap."

Your mother sat in a nearby chair and patted her lap. Alira ran up to her and jumped up onto her mother's lap.

"Before we begin, how did you get this?"
Your mother raised up your arm which was nearly completely bandaged.

Alira chuckled nervously, "I got it when I was running away from the sirens in the pond."

"Sirens?"

"Yeah! They were blue. And they had yellow eyes! They were really scary. But they also looked kind of lonely." Alira frowned.

"Yes. You've read why they're lonely, haven't you."

"Yes. They were once people who drowned themselves after getting their hearts broken."

'Children shouldn't know such terrifying tales, but she will need them for when she comes of age.'

"Did you say something mom?" Alira looked up to her mother.

"Oh no. Now, are you ready to hear the story?" Her mother shook the thoughts from her head and focused back on her daughter.

"Yeah I am!" Alira exclaimed.

"Alright. Long ago, there lived many amazing creatures. They all lived together in peace and harmony. They were lead by a beautiful princess named Alira-"

"That's my name!"

"Yes. Alongside her dragon, Zach, they kept the peace in this realm full of strong creatures. One day, Alira and Zach were on their way to meet with the dragons for a great darkness had enveloped their land. But they were attacked by the dragons. They even attacked Zach who was a dragon as well."

"Why would they do such a thing?"

"Will you let me tell the story?" Her mother tickled her sides.

"Yes, yes! I will!" Alira giggled.

"The darkness was a form of magic and it had taken over the dragons. It's influence spread across their home affecting all creatures. Alira purified as many creatures as she could. They waged war on the dark creatures. Many innocents were killed. Till finally, Alira found the source of the dark magic. It was a dragon. A very powerful one too. It's wingspan was larger than a small country. It's eyes were blacker than midnight and full of hatred. Alira tried to talk to the dragon, in an attempt to avoid any aggressive confrontations. The dragon, however, did not want a peaceful resolution. He declared the two his enemies and fought them. Alongside Zach, they defeated the dragon. But it's defeat also ended in their death. Before Alira and Zach died, the dragon used a  spell so that every few centuries, he would be reincarnated. Alira used the rest of her magic to cast a spell on the two before they died. Over many years, when they are needed they would be reincarnated into the human world. Our world. Then, they will travel through the forbidden forest to a small pond. There they will travel back to the magic realm and defeat the dragon's reincarnates."

"Woah! Do you think I will go one day too mom?! Do you think I could fight dragons?!"

The small girl jumped from her mother's lap and held out her hand as if she was using some sort of Magic and aimed her hand at another chair.

"Stand down you fiend! Bad dragon!" She shouted.

She made little shooting noises.

"Pew! Pew! Pew!"

"Alright. I think you got it." Her mother laughed.

"Yeah! Because I'm a mighty warrior princess!"

"Yes you are. But it seems that it's nearly the mighty warrior princesses bedtime." She glanced out the window and back to her very energetic daughter.

"Aww nah! I don't wanna go to bed! I still have more *yawn* dragons to fight!" The little girl pouted.

"Even mighty warriors have to rest. And you can fight dragons tomorrow."

"Okay." Young Alira gave in.

Her mother smiled. She bent down and picked the little girl up. She carried her through the long halls of their home and to Alira's room. She opened the door to her room and laid her carefully on the bed.

"Night mommy."

"Good night dear. Sweet dreams."

Alira yawned one last time before rolling over and falling asleep. Her mother kissed her forehead and walked out of Alira's room.

"I hate you have to learn of such things. But you will need them when you come of age. I hope what I have taught you will not be in vain." Her mother whispered and continued walking down the halls back to her room.

Back to the present        At the mansion

"Dear. Alira and the guard Zach are missing." Mrs. Hodges walked into her husband's study.

She wore a sad expression.

"So, it's already time."

Mr. Hodges turned back to his wife.

"There was no way to avoid this." He spoke softly.

Hello everyone!

Fun fact: I cane up with the idea for this while I was supposed to be studying. The mansion was inspired by paintingd from the Antebellum period in America that my grandmother kept. She enjoys looking at paintings and pictures from that time period.
