The idea for the book came from one of my daydreaming sessions that I had when I was supposed to be studying. I mentioned at the bottom of the last chapter that the Hodges' estate was inspired by paintings of the Antebellum period that my grandmother had. My grandma's house is old fashioned style.

This is kind of what Alira's room looks like. This is a picture that's hanging up in my grandma's living room.
The pictures ended up going sideways and the light was glaring on it. Sorry.
I have no idea where I came up for the name Alira at. It just kind of popped in my head while I was daydreaming instead of doing school work. As far as her last name, Hodges, goes. I had just rewatched Captain America The First Avenger. One of the guys in the movie name was Hodges. And I just thought the two name fit together. So, why the heck not. I originally planned to name her Kyoda. Kyodo translated from Japanese to English is 'strength' but ultimately decided against it.
Zach is just a name I always liked. (It is also the name of one of my middle school crushes) You read nothing. Nayru is a name commonly used in the Legend of Zelda video game series by Nintendo. I will use more Zelda references in the future.
Now for Zach facts (hehe it rhymed)
Zach has pointed ears that resemble that of an elf's. He was bullied a lot as a child because of this.
Zach is an orphan. He was orphaned when he was 14. He then quit school to look for a job. Mr. Hodges was in town when he found Zach. He offered him a job as a guard for Alira. He was also offered academic training. Zach gladly took his offer and was given military type training. Zach found a passion for military related subjects and exceled at this.
Alira facts
Alira often wears long sleeved dresses at dinner parties because her arms are littered in scars from her rambunctious childhood. As are her legs. She even has a scar that stretches around her side from when she fell on a sharp root. She nearly died from the incident due to loss of blood. They were able to stop the bleeding and she healed well.
Alira is a (as I call it) a chocoholic. Any chance at eating chocolate she gets, she takes it. She had been found more than once sneaking into the kitchen and eating chocolate. (This is actually taken from me. Chocolate is my favorite!)
Other facts
The region where The Hodges Estate is called Salan (Which is just some random word I came up with off the top of my head)
There is a large city that is an 1 hour ride (horse ride) from the Hodge's estate called Densville. (another word I thought off the top if my head) In the city, The Hodges own a great deal of businesses and factories. This is where there fortune came from.
The Hodges' estate has been passed down for generations. No one actually knows who the original owner of it was.
(BTW I went back and changed a little about the forest. The forest is now only 1,000 acres. 100 of which is the Hodges' estate)
