He whipped his head around to see Woman running towards him. The wolf nodded again and disappeared over the side of the fence. Woman ran up to him and grabbed his arm.

"There's a tracking device in your collar you have to take it off before you leave. Don't do it now though, there are security cameras that Bruno checks." She hissed in his ear.

He gave her a quick nod. They were going to have to do a bit of roleplay. Woman pretended to yank him. He let himself fall forward.

"What were you thinking?! Get back in here NOW!"

She raised her hand and brought it down, close to his face but not quite. He flinched and whined as if he had been hit. He inwardly complimented himself on his acting skills. Woman briskly walked into the house, pretending to roughly pull him along with her. Once they were in the house Woman sighed. Woman was also good at acting. She should have been an actress. She closed the door.

"Sorry about that Ren. I hope you know it was necessary."

He nodded. He understood.

"Did I hurt you?"

He shook his head. She sighed again.

"Good. Bruno should be home in about an hour. Just so you know."

An hour of peace to think. He'd finally told someone. That wolf would probably tell other hybrids, and those hybrids would tell more, and so on. There was no going back now. Would those hybrids even believe him? He was short, skinny, and the least intimidating of the hybrids. If the war hadn't happened, the best job he would be doing is mail-carrying. But the war had happened. Wings could mean a huge advantage to them. Maybe they would see past his weaknesses. He walked over next to the couch and sat down on the floor.

His mother loved tulips. He surprised himself at the thought. He tried not to think about his mother. It brought back memories that were quite unpleasant. But this one... didn't make him think of the horrible memories. He remembered how she always smelled like the scented lotion that she put on each morning and night. He remembered that she worked as a news reporter, writing all the latest stories, although nothing very interesting ever happened. He remembered she always bought him and Raine matching outfits and didn't care if he wore dresses or vice versa, even if their neighbors frowned upon it. He hadn't thought about how important these little details about his life were until they were ripped away from him. Those stupid, stupid humans. He had a perfect life and they ruined it. They shredded it into tiny little pieces until it was just a memory, almost a dream. He growled quietly. He had no sympathy for them. It didn't matter if there were some that were good. They would have to pay for their species' mistakes. They only had themselves to blame. If they truly cared, they would go against their leaders. But here they were, keeping silent and watching as he suffers.

He drew his wings tightly against his body, shivering despite the heat. He watched the clock as the minute hand slowly ticked closer and closer to 7:00. All he had to do now was wait.
