Chapter 3

"Dad! Wake up, someone is at the door!" Nicole yelled

"What? Who is it?" I mumbled

"I don't know, you told me not to answer the door" She said

I got up, the clock showed 7am which seemed very unusual cause no one I knew would show up so early

I run to the door expecting to here some bad news but I just saw my father in law with his wife and daughter. What the hell do they want at 7 freaking am?

Maybe I need to explain some things first. I never got along with Diane's father, I mean, his wife and Diane's half sister are always nice but not him.

He always blamed me for what happened to her, therefore he doesn't like me very much, and he only shows up to see Nicole, but I don't like leaving him alone with her because he always tries to brainwash her into hating me.

"Good morning Brian" Stella said with a smile on her face

"Where's Nicole?" Nick asked with a bitter look on his face

"Good morning to you too Stella! Nicole? She's in her room, she's trying to sleep. Y' know, since it's 7 in the morning.." I said

Nick sighed at my comment about his early visit

"Come on in, it's freezing out here" I said

They all went to the living room while I made coffee for them

"Hey Brian, do you mind if go sleep in with Nicole? I'm very tired" Natalia asked

"Of course darling go get some rest" I replied as she run to Nicole's room

I served the coffee to Nick and Stella and sat down as he was giving me a vile look

"Anything you want to share with me? Maybe 3 more verses of how it's my fault?" I asked with an equally angry look on my face

"You've got some nerve-" He tried to yell but Stella stopped him

I sighed "Do you want to resolve this calmly cause I'm tired of always fighting"

"Not until you admit that it was your fault!" Nick said

"You stalked her for a year, you scared the life out of her, literally, and it's suddenly my fault? I did everything I could to make her feel safe, to give her a drama-free life and you show up with no warning whatsoever and suddenly she gets into a car crash and ends up passing away not too long after that! So how exactly is it MY fault?" I said as calmly as I could

"You called that life drama free? That was my baby girl! Even her mother treated her better than that, she was literally dragged into this mess you call life because you wanted to be in a stupid band!" He yelled

"Raise your voice in this house one more time and I swear I won't respect your age and the fact that you're her dad.." I said

"She clearly deserved better, not some disrespectful man that can't even take care of his own kid" He said

I took a deep breath, I couldn't believe what I was hearing, this man was blaming me for everything that he did wrong! Before I could say anything I saw a framed photo of him from the top shelf fly off and get smashed on the floor.

"What in the name of God..." Stella gasped as she saw what I had just seen

The yelling stopped as we stared at the broken frame in shock

"Mom doesn't like what grandpa said" Nicole said as she stood at the living room door

"Oh great Nicole's hallucinating. I told you she shouldn't be living with that unstable man!" Nick whispered at Stella

"Just stop! You're very disrespectful and mean to poor Brian! He's right, it was never his fault. I told you to be careful but you didn't care!" Stella said

"Why are siding with him? I'm your husband!" Nick yelled once again

"Grandpa don't speak, you're making mom mad" Nicole sighed

"Your mom is dead, she can't hear anything from where she is" Nick said while in distress

Nicole run to her room crying. How could he say those things to his 5 year old granddaughter? How heartless can someone be??

"Okay get out of my house! You've caused enough damage. Get out!" I yelled

"No! We're going to sit down and we're going to settle this!" Nick yelled back

"Oh my god you're even worse than her mother, why would you even say that to your granddaughter?" I said

Nick sat down, his eyes were full of tears

"I'm sorry..." He said "You're both right, it wasn't your fault.. I just miss my baby girl" He said

"You know I'm a father too right? I would take a bullet for my daughter. I can't possibly understand how it feels losing your child but give me a break!" I sighed "I lost the love of my life, and I'm really trying to keep everything together, it's not easy but I'm trying!" I replied

"I know, I'm sorry, I shouldn't blame you for something you had no control over. I'm sorry okay?" He said

"It's fine" I replied

"Now see, it wasn't that bad to acknowledge what you said to Brian was wrong" Stella said and comforted him

"And I'm not like her mother, her mother is a witch who separated me and my daughter because she was selfish.. I just wanted to see her again and have the father-daughter relationship with her that was taken away from the both of us" He cried

"I get that, it was just the timing that was wrong" I said

"I remember one time I wanted to see her and Nicole so much and I was hiding in a bush just so I could see them.."

"That was YOU?" I cut him off

My blood started boiling again. The reason and person that left Diane so traumatized was her own father??

"Do you realize how much you traumatized her?" I yelled

"I- I had no idea, I realized I was being creepy,that's why I never showed up again" He replied

"Did you know about this?" I asked Stella

"No, I didn't, he said he was out to a pub that night, I didn't know he was stalking your family!" She got defensive

She seemed genuinely distressed about hearing this new information, she looked disgusted at Nick's actions

"And then you called ME unstable? Nick..please get help" I replied

I got up and walked into Nicole's room where I saw her crying and Natalia sitting next to her trying to comfort her.
She stood up and run into my arms

"I'm sorry dad" She cried

"Why are you apologizing for sweetheart? None of this is your fault" I hugged her tightly

"I don't want to see him again, he's mean!" She said

"You don't have to worry about that, dad's on it" I replied

"Can I come in?" Stella knocked gently on the door

"Come in" I said

"I know you probably don't want anything to do with us but I've got to ask.. Can Natalia stay here for a few days, I seriously need to reevaluate everything with Nick, and I don't want her to hear us fighting" She whispered in my ear

"I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at him, you're family, of course she can stay. And my door is always open for you" I reassured her

"Thank you so much!" She said and got her bag, grabbed Nick and they left

"Let me show you to your room" I said to Natalia
