Chapter 9:

The entire time during the movie, Shane kept his arm around me. I could smell his cologne and all it did was make me want to stop trying to pay attention to the movie and bury myself into his shirt. He knew what he was doing to me, too. Every time I glanced over at him, he was smirking and then he'd scoot even closer to me and my heart rate would speed up.

After the movie, he was a complete gentlemen and drove me home and walked me to the door. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want him to kiss me. I shouldn't be disappointed that he didn't though. He at least pecked my cheek.

Shane told me he had another special date planned out.

He took me to the zoo. Shane said he'd never been to one and his mom and brother never wanted to go with him, so he decided to take me.

A lot of the animals weren't out because it was so cold, but it was a lot of fun anyway.

Shane was fascinated by the otters. Since we didn't know what their names were, he decided to make some up for them. There was Francis, Melvin, Pancake, Peanut, and (my favorite) Sir Poops A Lot. I read the sign next to the exhibit and was intrigued by what it said.

"Shane?" I asked.

"Yeah?" He was still mesmerized by the otters.

"Hold my hand."

Shane piped up and paid total attention to me. "Why?"

"Because otters do it," I explained.

He furrowed his eyebrows. "Why?" He walked over closer to me.

"Because otters do it so that they don't lose the one they love," I said with a smile, my cheeks turning a deep red color.

Shane grinned and took my hand in his. They were warm compared to mine which were always freezing.

The zoo is only about a twenty minute walk from my home so Shane walked me home.

On our way, I felt a sharp pain in my hip, then lost balance and had to be caught in Shane's arms.

"Are you okay? he asked, his voice full of concern.

I regained my balance and stumbled to stand up. "Yeah, I'm fine," I lied, a pain still piercing through my hip. "I just got a little dizzy."

I had to lean more on Shane the rest of the way home.

I woke up last night a countless amount of times because of how much pain I was in. My mom drove me to the hospital in the morning so that we could find out what was wrong.

The doctors are running a bunch of tests and I have a ton of wires surrounding my body.

The only good thing about today was my mom bought me Taco Bell for lunch so that I wouldn't have to eat the disgusting hospital food. She brought me some books and magazines too.

Hopefully, the tests will come in soon because I am getting sick and tired of staying in a stupid hospital bed with itchy sheets.
