"Pass the ball, Bom!" Yuna shouted desperately, waving her hands frantically in the air, asking for his attention. But just like every boy in the soccer game, he ignored her.
Yuna didn't like recess, unlike most of her peers. It was either gossip with the girls or play soccer with the boys. Ever since she made the decision to play with the boys, they've treated her like dirt.
Who said a girl couldn't play soccer? Yuna was terribly good at it, using the fun sport to increase her stamina for dance class.
Yuna shook the angry thoughts swarming in her head as she ran after the ball, hoping to at least come into contact with it once in the whole game. A fellow classmate had sensed her motive and afraid to lose the game, he purposely tripped her.
Yuna winced in pain as her knee scratched against the rough grass. She suppressed the urge to cry out in pain, slowly getting up and sitting on the grass.
"Seriously?!" A boy called out, frustrated. Since Yuna had fallen, they had to stop the whole game. The boys gathered around Yuna, judgemental looks on every one of their faces. Yuna bit her wobbling lip, telling herself continuously not to cry in front of them.
Not one person had offered their hand to pull her up. They just formed a circle, finally getting the chance to attack her. Poor Yuna was the victim and her crime? She just wanted to play soccer.
"Don't you know how many times you've inconvenienced us?" the first mean remark was thrown. Yuna lowered her head as she heard the others agreeing.
Yuna closed her eyes as tears dripped down, more remarks being thrown her way, each getting more severe than the last. She wanted it to stop, but what could she do? She was one against a million.
"What do you think you're doing?" an authoritative voice snapped. Yuna looked up, her swollen eyes meeting Yeonjun's.
Yeonjun sighed as he sat down on the bench out of habit, used to seeing Huening Kai playing soccer with his friends. Yeonjun sipped on his chocolate milk, watching the youngsters play fiercely with each other. A ponytail caught his eye as his eyes strayed to the boy's face.
Well, maybe she was the right word. The girl had beads of sweat rolling down her face as her eyes were narrowed, giving Yeonjun the impression that she was determined.
His eyes widened when he realized it was Huening Kai's crush, Yuna. He chuckled in disbelief, watching the young girl in awe as she chased after the ball.
Watching so keenly, he didn't miss the sly boy's foot tripping the poor girl. Yeonjun watched the scene unravel, expecting apologies and help on the way. But what he saw just made his blood boil.
"She tripped so we had to stop the game." A boy whined childishly. Yeonjun scoffed, irritated.
"So the game is more important than someone's injury? Can't y'all see her bleeding knee or are you all blind?" Yeonjun walked over to Yuna, offering his hand.
Yuna looked at him with tear-filled eyes. Yeonjun's eyes softened seeing the girls' vulnerable state. He offered a kind smile, assuring her. Slowly, she laced her slender fingers with Yeonjun's before he pulled her up carefully.
"You okay?" He whispered to Yuna, patting her back. Yuna nodded, her ears turning red in embarrassment.
"And don't think I haven't seen how you've treated her during the game. Who are you to assume she would be bad at soccer just because she's a girl. I'm pretty sure she might be better than some of y'all." Yeonjun sneered, throwing dirty looks at all of them.
He helped Yuna limp away to the bench. Yuna sat down on the bench slowly, slowly letting go of Yeonjun's calloused hands. Her head hung low in shame as she fumbled with her hands.
"Wait here, I'll get you a bandaid and cream." Yeonjun comforted Yuna before getting up from his knees.
"Don't..." Yuna's timid voice made Yeonjun turn around, alarmed. Yuna faced Yeonjun, a small smile plastered on her face.
"I just want company."
Yeonjun softly chuckled at the girl's shyness before sitting next to her. They sat in silence, enjoying each others' presence.
"Are you dating Yeji unnie?" Yuna asked shyly, turning her head around to face Yeonjun. Yeonjun's cheeks flamed up as he coughed, nervous.
"N-No..."
"If you want to, just know I'd support you. You'd make a good boyfriend." Yuna smiled gratefully to Yeonjun, her doe eyes radiating innocence.
Yeonjun found the girl so cute he couldn't resist the temptation to pat the girl's head.
"How about you and Kai?" Yeonjun smirked. Now, it was Yuna's turn for her cheeks to turn red as she looked away.
"I'd support you too. You're both cute together." Yeonjun chuckled.
"Hey, Yeonjun?..." Yuna asked. Yeonjun hummed in response, smiling at Yuna.
"Can we be friends?"
"Of course, Yuna. Just make sure Kai won't misunderstand."
"Yeji too."
"H-HEY!"
