In the dead of night, I was trying to sleep. It was dark at the Black Bulls Hideout. There was no light in my room, except for the moonlight rays shining through my window. I tried closing my eyes while on my bed, with all of my senses still intact. It was hard to sleep.
Oh yeah, I'm Asta and I come from Hage village. My goal is to become the Wizard King!--even though I'm the only one in the world who was born without magic in a world where magic is everything. But anything's possible if you never give up! After the grimoire ceremony, I obtained an unusual cool power called "anti-magic". It's a power that negates magic– and it can even cut it! After that, I joined the Black Bulls. A magic knight guild said to be the "worst of the worst". But honestly, it's great here! I met many friends and we all care for each other, even though it's always rowdy and everyone's always all over the place. It's my home.
Suddenly, I heard some footsteps walk into my room. Is it one of my squadmates? It should be, but I don't think any of them would just barge into my room unexpectedly, unless they were going to surprise me, but everyone's asleep by now. At least I think so.
I can sense that ki from the other presence in my room. Then I heard a noise. I secretly opened my eyes and saw a figure wearing a cloak, probably one used to "condense mana" or hide their appearance or something like that. I gazed at his hand as he was walking towards the door to exit my room. He was holding...
...my grimoire.
I quickly hopped out of my bed and wore my headband. "Hey you! Stop right there and give me back my grimoire!" I began chasing him without thinking. The guy turned to look at me and jumped as if he didn't expect for me to be awake. He then ran out of my room and I chased after him. "Stop!"
Without my grimoire, I wouldn't be able to use my anti-magic swords or even fight enemies and villains. My anti-magic is my only key left to becoming the next Wizard King. Of course I will give up no matter what, even without my anti-magic, but I still need it. I can't lose it. Not now.
"Get back here, you thief!" I yelled at him but he didn't stop. I have to keep chasing him so he won't get away!
"Asta!" I heard a voice. Noelle! "Asta, what's happening?!" She had her hair down and not in its usual ponytails, since she clearly just woke up from her doze and didn't bother to tie her hair up. She then began running beside me, confused.
I pointed at the guy running a few feet in front of me and tried not to pant as I spoke. "That guy... stole my grimoire!"
"What?!"
"We need to catch him!"
"Okay!" She was chasing after him too.
A little bit after that, both Luck and Magna walked out of their rooms as well at around the same time due to the noise. Luck was still wearing his nightcap and Magna had his hair down and wasn't wearing his glasses. Magna looked half-asleep while Luck, who was always very energetic, looked much less sleepy.
"What's with the damn racket?" Magna asked with a yawn. Him and Luck began following us slowly and then speeding up the more time passed.
"That man has my grimoire and he's running away with it!" I told them.
"Wait, what?!" Magna said with an unbelieving tone.
"Oh, so he's an enemy!" Luck pointed out.
They were both running behind us, trying to keep up. Just a few seconds after, Vanessa and Finral woke up and headed out of their rooms. Vanessa in her bikini and yawning, and Finral's hair looked like it wasn't combed yet.
"What in Clover Kingdom is happening now...?" Finral asked with a yawn.
"That guy has Asta's grimoire and is running away!" Noelle told them.
"Really?" Vanessa asked as her and Finral began running with us. Eventually, the rest of the Bulls also heard the commotion and ran after us out of their rooms as well, except for Yami, who can somehow still snooze with all this racket going on.
Luck used his lightning magic to zoom really fast ahead of us, faster than the thief. The thief tried running faster and reached the living room. Luck zoomed into him and knocked him off his feet. Then he sat on top of the thief with him strangling beneath him on the floor. "Caught the culprit!" He announced pridefully.
The Bulls all approached the thief slowly. "I don't know what's your game here, but you better not mess with any of us." Magna said.
"Hand over the grimoire." Vanessa demanded.
The thief looked like he wasn't defeated yet. He struggled to get up and yelled, "Off me, you brat!" He swung his fist at Luck's face, causing Luck to fall hard on the floor.
"Luck! Are you alright?" Vanessa said as she helped Luck up.
"Yeah... but that hurt..." Luck said while holding his hand on the area of his face where the thief punched it.
The thief raised his hand in the air and created a portal out of magic. He quickly ran through it but before any of us could follow him, the portal closed.
"A... spatial magic user?" Finral's voice trailed off.
"Damn him. We'll never catch him at this rate." Gauche said in his usual annoyed tone. "Hey, Finral. Is there anything you can do about it? You use spatial magic, right?"
"You can't track down other spatial magic users with spatial magic. It doesn't work that way. I need to know where he is and have actually been there." Finral sighed.
"Useless." Gauche argued.
"Huh?! I'm your superior!" Finral reminded him.
Gauche rolled his eye in response.
"Where could he have gone? Honestly, I don't feel like going on a wild goose chase around the whole Kingdom in all three realms." Zora said.
"He's right." Said Captain Yami's voice as he walked into the living room with a yawn.
"Captain Yami?!" Charmy gasped.
"You're awake?" Vanessa asked.
"Did you really think I wouldn't wake up due to the amount of noise you currs were causing?!" Captain Yami replied in an angry tone. "Besides, there's no way we can run around the whole damn Kingdom looking for someone we'll probably never find."
"B-but... he has my grimoire!" I said.
"Listen to me, Kid, will you?! We're going to get your grimoire. But not alone. We could ask Julius to hire some peeps to go on a search for us. But not only that, us, as Black Bulls, would also have to contribute as well. We'll keep looking until we get that grimoire of yours back. Isn't that right, Kid?" The Captain looked over to me.
"Y-yeah..." I nodded.
"Stronger."
"Yes sir!!" I did the Clover Kingdom's three-leaf salute.
Yami then addressed the whole squad. "Alright. It's still night so I want all of you idiots to go back to sleep until the morning. Tomorrow, I'll split you all into groups of two so we can get this done quickly."
