USS John C. Stennis, once homeported in San Diego, has a rich naval history but if you look at the legacy of the senator it's named after, some would say his name should no longer be attached to the Navy vessel.

A recent article on the non-partisan U.S. Naval Institute website by retired Lieutenant Commander Reuben Keith Green called out the values of Stennis saying, "Stennis was vehemently opposed to Black equality, and spent his entire career, both as a Mississippi prosecutor, judge, and state senator attempting to ensure it did not happen."

VanDiver served on USS Chancellorsville while in the Navy and told NBC 7 that he never understood why the Navy would name a ship after a battle in which the confederates won.

Carl: Should the USS Stennis be renamed?

John: I mean, an argument is developing that the U.S. Navy ought to use the opportunity of the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) refuel to change the name.

Carl: I just wish they don't do that.

John: Yeah, Stennis was a good carrier after all.

???: It is what it is, we can't really help it.

Carl: Sorry sir, Captain Carl M. Of the USS John C. Stennis.

John: Good Morning admiral  Aaron, Executive Officer John K. Of the USS John C. Stennis.

Aaron: Enough with the introductions, we really need your opinions if you want your ship to be renamed or not, be ready in 20 minutes, we are leaving for the meeting soon.

Carl: Yes, sir.

Aaron: I'll be early, meet me there.

John: Roger that, sir.

After Aaron leaves

Carl: So....lets go and get our uniforms and go to the meeting place, shall we?

John: I guess so, Captain lets go.

Carl: As you wish.

They prepare for the meeting, have breakfast and the like.

Timeskip.

Both the captain and exo are now outside the carrier deck.

Aaron: You both are quick, now get in the helicopter.

Carl: Yes, sir.

John: Yes, sir.

After they get inside.

Aaron: Pilot, you know where to go.

Pilot: As always, sir Aaron.

Timeskip.

The helicopter, which is a UH-60 Blackhawk, is flying towards a naval base where the meeting will be held.

Aaron: Stennis was an Arch-Racist, but also was a good carrier to begin with.

Carl: To be fair sir, what would the Gerald R. Ford class be if the Nimitz class didn't exist in the first place?

Aaron: Just one big project, that's my answer.

John: If only we had that one video..then we would have shown them how much Stennis was worth. *says while looking out the window*

Carl: I do have it, but its going to be risky showing it.

Aaron: Not entirely risky, though even with the video, the choice of renaming the carrier lies in the hands of you both.

John: Wait, the choice is ours?

Carl: I would choose half of yes and no.

John: I would hard no on that.

Aaron: May I have your reasons?
