Laurens POV ( ooh that's new)

" Alex!" I call out. We had recently won a duel against Charles Lee. He got called into Washingtons tent after and I haven't seen him since. Why only him when he was only a second? I don't know but I wasn't gonna question my da- my general. Alex seems upset, I wonder what happened.

" hey, jack," he grumbled. He was heading towards our tent.

I started walking with him. " hey, what's wrong?"

" he sent me home." He mumbled.

" what?"

" he sent me home." He said angrily. " Washington told me to go home."

"W-what?! Why you? I'm the one who-"

" he had told me not to do anything, but I got involved anyway." Alex sighed. " I have to start packing..."

" I'll talk to him. Maybe I can get him to change his mind. I know how much this war means to you," I say, hoping that I can actually do that.

" you can go ahead and try, but I'm going to go pack." He walked into our tent. He sounded so defeated. It simply wasn't fair for him to be sent home and not me. I turn around and walk to Washingtons tent.

Washingdad POV

I was doing some work and trying to get my mind off of what just went down. Alexander was Lauren's second in a duel, even after I specifically told him not to do anything. I hate when he does that. And what worse is I was reprimanding him and he yelled at me not to call him son. Putting aside that I am his commander, it hurt my heart that he would say something like that. He looked guilty, but well, I needed a reason to send him home, upon Eliza's request.

I hear the flap of my tent open up. John Lauren's poked his head in. " sir, may I have word?" He asked politely. I think I know where this is headed.

" sure Lauren's, what do you need?" I say. He came in and straightened up before starting.

" sir, if you don't mind me asking, but, why would you send home Alexander? He's not the one who-" I put up a hand to cut him off.

"Lauren's, it's true he wasn't the one in the duel, but he was your second, even after I told him not to do anything." I reason. I know he's trying to defend Alex, but I'm not changing my mind.

" but sir, in all fairness, how could expect Alex, your closest soldier, to do nothing as lee-"

" I expected him to follow orders, which he didn't. I'm not particularly proud that you dueled someone either, but i also didn't give you an order." I cut him off. He didn't know everything, or my other reason for sending him home.

He got quiet after that. Then he sighed, "ok sir, I understand, even if I don't agree." He stood up and left the tent. I felt bad, but Alexander had a son to meet.

The next day

It was getting late, but I still had work to do. There was a lot of writing to do without Alexander around. I walk back into my tent for some late night writing. When I walk in, there's someone by Alex's desk. I panic for a second, until I see it's.... Laurens?
