Elle blocked each thrust of his sword. She was thankful for all the practice that she had done and all the skills she had learned. She knew that without it she would not be able to hold off his assault.
Suddenly, Captain Talbot to the stood to her left. Then she felt a presence to her right, it was Harv.
Their presence caused Miles to hesitate. That hesitation was all she needed. She thrust her sword up and to the right. She watched as his sword twisted in his grasp. In the air it twisted tip over hilt. It clattered against the dirt and cobbled path.
For a moment Miles looked slightly stunned. the stunned expression soon turned to anger. just as he started to lunge for her she held out her sword. He stopped, the tip of her sword at his throat. A drop of blood pooled were the tip of her sword pierced his skin.
"Miles, I have nothing against you. I never have. Zara and I are friends. Nothing more." she told him solemnly.
It was clear in his eyes that he didn't believe her.
"Why can't you understand?" she demanded of him. She cursed violently.
Harv cleared his throat.
"You're clearly been on a ship too long." the captain said bitterly.
She spared him a quick glance and told him to shut up. Harv was looking uncomfortable.
"If I move my sword will you agree to come with me to talk to Zara?" she spoke to Miles. He glared at her.
"We should have left you on the bloody island." the captain said and took a threatening step toward him.
"Fine." Miles hissed.
"Your word you wont try to kill me before we talk to Zara?" she asked him. He nodded. "Say it."
He expelled a exasperated breath. "Fine. I give you my word not to kill you." he smiled crookedly, "Until we talk to Zara."
Elle sighed and lowered her sword.
"Just remember that El isn't alone. You try anything and I'll kill you me self." Harv told him.
The captain walked over to Miles' sword and picked it up. "I think I'll keep this for the time being." he said and slide it behind his belt. Then he replaced his own sword in he is scabbard.
They made their way to the bar. The three of them kept their eyes on Miles. For Miles part, he seems content to wait. As far as he knew he could just kill her later.
Zara was unavailable. So they took a seat at the table in the back. Harv sat beside Miles. He held a knife in his hand and made sure that Miles saw it.
They ordered nothing to drink and sent every one away that came to their table. Some of the women slid them dirty looks.
"You'll have to order something." the owner said when he came up the table. He was a big burly man with a thick shaggy beard. He wore a dagger at his hip tucked behind his belt. "Tables are for paying customers only." he eyed them.
When Captain Talbot reached for his coin purse the man tensed and put his hand on his knife. he only marginally relaxed when Captain Talbot produced some coins. If he could have seen Harvs knife clutched in his hands the conversation would have very likely went much differently.
"See were not disturb again. And let Zara know that we are expecting her soon." Captain Talbot said, his tone broaching no protest.
The man cleared his throat and nodded. He then walked away. He made his way up the stairs.
