chapter one: the first killing

The moonlight sat on her pond, the soft sound of droplets as her few fish propped themselves up to the top.
Dove Riley didn't normally sit outside at the night time, she was a fan of horror and knew the risks.
But something about tonight told her she was safe, deep down she had the feeling someone else wasn't- but that wasn't her business.

A few branches cracked in sync from in front of her bench. Dove didn't flinch, she didn't even bat an eyelid at the new figure that stood a few feet away from her perched behind a tree.
Her eyes fluttered up looking through her lashes „can i help you?" the girl asked, her voice sounded bored and dry.    The figure stepped forward revealing itself „oh it's you" Dove mumbled looking back down to the water.

Billy Loomis walked out of her wooded garden laughing at her tone, he walked around the water sitting himself next to her. His jaw tightened a little before speaking „Sydney was boring me so i came to my favourite girl"

Dove turned her head to the side to view him through her hair, her expression was blank unlike his smirking one „so you're girlfriend bores you?" she laughed a little sitting up properly turning her head to him
„that doesn't sound like love" the girl shook her head.

„who said i love her" Billy laughed sitting back leaning his elbows on the back of the bench „i barely like Prescott" he sighed looking to the lake.

The girl, still looking to him, bit her lip slightly thinking about their 'relationship' she thought was perfect „then why drag her around like a puppy?" she questioned.
He looked to her seeing Dove biting her lip at him, Billy smirked slowly winking to her „all will be revealed soon, my little bird" he kissed her forehead standing and taking a few steps away backwards admiring her blanc expression before turning and walking back to her trees.

Dove stared at the place he walked, thoughts should be bouncing in her head worrying for her friend who was dating someone that didn't like her, but instead she didn't care.
At the end of the day it wasn't her who was going to get hurt, it wasn't her heart whose would be broken.

The next morning Tatum had already left for school by the time her sister, Dove, had woken. This was usually how all her mornings went; wake, shower, pamper, dress, eat and leave.
Normally her walking into school routine was casual too- but not this morning. „did you hear?" Tatum spoke wrapping an arm around Dove's shoulders and her other around Sydney's.

„hear what?" Sydney questioned brushing Tatum's arm of her shoulder which dove thought of as rude.

Tatum groaned mentally face planting before saying „Casey Becker and Steve Orth were killed last night" the two girls on her side looked to her with different expressions.
Sydney turned with sorrow in her eyes feeling bad for the passed high school kids where Dove, looked to her more intrigued in finding out how.

„poor Casey" Dove sighed, wrapping her arm around Tatum's waist „do you know how?" she asked her sister.

„just that they were killed like horror movie style. Ripped open end to end"

Dove hummed in reply „sounds messy to clean" she said out loud earning looks from her friends „you can't say i'm wrong" the girl raised a brow as they both shrugged.

„do they know who did it?" Sydney know asked turning to Tatum.
Tatum shrugged slipping a step „fucking clueless" she replied "I mean, they're interrogating the entire school. Teachers, students, janitors"

Dove frowned „they think it's school related?" she asked confused to how they got that link.

„They don't know. I mean, Dewey was saying this is the worst crime they've seen in years. Even worse than--" The blonde paused turning on her feet as she faced Sydney „Well, it's bad" she finished.

The lab chair that Dove now sat in, next to the one Casey once pretended like she was paying attention in, felt a little empty.
Like a draft was constantly there in the empty chair „Miss Riley" Mr Isaac's called her name out making the „it's your turn" he finished pointing his paper to the door.

The dirty blonde Riley girl stood from her seat averting her eyes from the class mates staring at her. A teacher opened the doors for her until they arrived at the principles office, two officers stood at the wall facing a chair for her to sit in.
„Dove Riley" Sheriff Burke said reading it of a sheet as the girl sat in the seat opposite him.

„Burke" she addressed now turning to her older brother „deputy" she nodded as he nodded back smiling.

„now, dove can you give me the exact place and time of place you were at last night" Burke asked leaning forward on his knees.

Dove looked from him to the principle blank faced, she turned back seeing the look in the Sheriffs eyes- the look that he didn't trust her answers „home, all night. my mom, Tatum and dewey was there- they can vouch for me"
The Sheriff sighed looking to his notes then to Riley, Deputy Riley shook his head frantically but Burke ignored him. „Miss Riley, have you ever been hunting? or if so, do you like to hunt?" He spoke looking back to her.

The girl scoffed looking from Dewey back to the sheriff „no, i don't hunt, i don't like to hunt and i also don't like killing my lab partner" she spat getting up from her chair, Dove grabbed her bag barging the door open and slamming it back shut.
