Chapter 2
“Here it is, Your Highness.”
A male, whose face was wrapped in a heavy green cloak, kneeled as he held out a vial of a pure silver substance that seemed to burn his hand as he continued to hold it.
The figure before him raised its hand and immediately light erupted from a fire place in the south of the chamber, the vivid green flames seeming to frighten the man but he once again looked at the ground before him, as he continued to hold out the vial.
The figure no longer was in the shadows and dropped its own royal purple cloak from its head, revealing long blonde tresses and a sultry body wrapped in a fine, silky corseted dress of the same shade of her cloak.
But as she turned around, her face was the exact opposite of the femininity first conceived and the appearance of it caused more fear to go through the man in front of her.
Her cheeks sagged as wrinkles high-lighted every inch of her skin, the warts only just covered by the self-inflicted scars; some relatively new from what you could glean from the shiny pink ones, next to the dull brown ones.
But it was her eyes that had her servant cowering in fear as the burning irises matched the fiery inferno behind him that was only just contained in the fire place.
And he knew from experience just how unforgiving the blaze was to behold, as that was the reason he never went without wrapping a heavy cloak around him to mask his scarred appearance.
“Do you know how long I have waited for this? How long I have been cooped inside this dreaded chamber!” She snarled as she snatched the vial from him.
The pain of the substance didn’t seem to affect her as she poured it into the cauldron she had been standing against. A vile smoke immediately erupted out of it as the ingredients reacted against each other, and as the servant’s eyes began to water he was glad he couldn’t smell it.
From the many years he had been forced to work for her, he knew exactly how deadly this concoction was to create, which is what made his mistress so frightening in the fact that she regularly took it upon herself to make the potion that so twisted the Fates’ natural designs.
All for pure vanities sake.
“I apologise Your Majesty, but the Hunters have been on the lookout from the first time I even slayed one of the Unicorns–” He attempted to explain when the flames behind him suddenly grew more fierce and he began to sweat under the layers he wore, both out of fear and the incredible warmth spreading around the small chamber.
“You hunted near their camp?” She asked quietly as she stopped stirring her potion, and panic penetrated the pit of his stomach at the calm in her tone, knowing just how dangerous it was.
“I had no choice mistress!” He cried as he swooped lower on the ground knowing that if he didn’t quickly defend himself he would soon meet his maker.
And he was sure he wouldn’t be in one piece and would be going straight to Tarturus.
“All of the Unicorns seemed to be enchanted by their land, as they had all convened to the Hunters Kingdom. No other land had any of the species and that was what had taken me so long – tracking them down.” He whimpered, and he was slightly relieved that the fire behind him lessened on the torturous warmth he had been bathed in.
Her stirring began again and he knew that he was out of hot water, but only by a little.
He knew he needed a crucial piece of information that would allow him to get back into her ‘good’ graces once again, and he knew what could.
“There had also been another thing that had slowed me down…” He trailed off as he didn’t know what she would make of it, as she could be angered by it and use him as a target.
“Well? Don’t waste my time, spit it out!” She growled and the swish of her long dress alerted him that she had turned around, as his face was all but melded to the ground below him.
“The P-Prince of FarLand, he…he called upon them for help while their Council were there to initiate another Hunter.” He spluttered out, wanting to bite his tongue for even thinking of saying it, but he knew that if she found out some other way and he had been in the vicinity and hadn’t told her…
“Fine. Is that all?” She asked curtly and he didn’t know how to react other than to simply nod.
“Then get out of my sight.” She dismissed him and he didn’t think twice in scarpering out the room, vanishing in a pile of dust that always left his wake.
She wrinkled her nose at the mess he had left behind before turning back to her now complete concoction, breathing in the familiar scent of the very thing that had held her in check all these years.
Not even waiting for it to cool down, she scooped it up in the palms of her wrinkly hands and splashed it on her face like water.
She revelled in the hissing pain as the liquid sin worked to rejuvenate her face as it had already to her hands.
Once it had done its job she turned from the cauldron and looked toward the mirror at the opposite side of the room her eyes gleaming at her now younger appearance, the wrinkles, scars and warts – everything that showed the outer world what she really was – disappeared once again.
And now she could deal with her new problem much more personally and effectively.
Bringing in protection? And from the Hunters? She snorted.
They were nothing against her power. When she wanted something, she went out and got it. There was nothing in the world that could stop her.
And she wanted that Prince. She wanted him, and his power as the next in line to the throne of the biggest Kingdom in the realm.
He didn’t want her affections. He didn’t take to her threats to his life.
Then she will have to wait for something more personal to enter his life to threaten. And she knew a threat from her to the love of his life would surely be his demise.
They say the way into a man’s life was his stomach or his heart.
Since she didn’t own the latter, she would have to wait until someone did.
And looking into her mirror into the camp of the Hunters, she set her eyes on the fiery-red head, the only female ever to be a Hunter, and knew she was the reason why all the Unicorns had gone to the land.
If those picky creatures were fawning all over her, then the Prince had no chance.

I know it's short, but it ended in such a great ending that I thought, why not just leave it as a little snippet? The Dedication for DemonGirl is for the banners/covers she made me (on the slideshow that state they are by her).
