Chapter 7

Snow's POV

“So, what was it you wanted to ask me?”

After Luc had outlined negotiations and diplomatic stuff with the Princes yesterday, we had gotten a chance to eat and rest before our mission truly began. We had also been informed of why the King had not been present, since he was away negotiating with the witches on the good side to keep up the protections on this Kingdom. So because of this, Percy and Archer had no one yet to protect and was temporarily assigned to Prince Chris and Stephan – Percy to Prince Stephan because he was the most sombre out of the two and Archer because he was more fitting to run around with the younger Prince.

The rest of us though were already into a groove, and I was once again glad that Gideon and Luc had decided for me to accompany all of my brothers, because now I didn’t have to be on my own just looking after Alice.

I had found out from the squealing pregnant woman (once she knew for sure that I had agreed to be her protector, like there was ever really any doubt otherwise) that I would be hanging out with Chase for most of the day because she spent the majority of her time with Prince Stephan’s wife and his two children. Then about dusk, I would be with Heath because that was the sort of time Prince Adrian was able to get time away from his duties, as well as the two of us sleeping in the room opposite Alice and Adrian’s so that we could be as close to them as possible so to be able to quickly spring into action if need be.

The only times I would be able to group up with all of my brothers was during meal times – in which we would eat in adjoining rooms, the Royals in one room, with us Praedators in the other so that we have time away from each other but we’ll still be there to protect them if need be – and the allotted times after the meals in which Luc had negotiated when we will ride with our horses while they either have a stroll or ride with us.

Clearly most of mine and Heath’s time was set in stone, but I hoped Alice occasionally spent time with the other Royals, or had more time running into them so that I could at least have more time with my brothers. I guess, though this is the trial run and not yet properly tested out since its only just nearing noon, even the thought of having to spend so long away from my brothers was giving me separation anxiety.

Obviously I’ve spent time away from my brothers when they’d been off on their assigned missions or the times when they each left our homeland to explore the world before they went through the Ritual, but I was always with my Mentor and I was always training and within my home.

Now that I was on foreign soil…it was a lot more daunting.

But this was what I had wanted. This was what would happen if I were to constantly go out on missions, except sometimes it would be entirely on my lonesome. I just had to suck it up, I guess.

I looked away from where I was eyeing a piece of rose covered shrubbery in suspicion of danger lurking behind it, to turn to face my charge.

“It can wait,” I said curtly, knowing that Chase had been listening to most of our conversation from where he was playing with the children. Ben and Mary were such adorable little beings, and were the perfect spit image of their parents.

I was obviously accustomed to children because the Brethren were a huge family, and as the only female in the camp, the little boys always took a special liking to me because I was softer to them than their fathers or their brothers. And even though I obviously had no practise with girls, let alone a seven year old one, Mary seemed to take a shine to me just as much as eleven year old Ben did. But the women had snagged me to themselves so they had no choice but to take my blonde brother as their substitute person to play with.
