Chapter 3
Snow's POV
I cuddled up to Heath as we watched Luc and Gideon have a heated ‘debate’.
We were in our family’s tent, in which we only used to sleep in, having a private celebration for Heath, Chase and Todd’s return from their successful Hunt.
They had brought back vials and vials of Phoenix’s tears, and had amused the Brethren with their tales of the many ways they had shiftily gained it, but also infuriated us with their report on the slaying of the Unicorns, the verdict being that – because their horns were still intact – it had to be just a random act of some evil creature.
I mean, what else could it have been? We had no leads so far, so we had to drop it, but that didn’t mean it didn’t rub me the wrong way.
So after a long night of drinks and laughter, we also discussed who I would be accompanying on the trip, and they had all decided that all my brothers and I should go, with Gideon staying behind to step in as temporary leader while Luc came with us.
We were all happy with the verdict as they wanted to come with me as I gained this life experience, and since I had never been on any sort of Hunt with all of my brothers at once, I was looking forward to it.
“Why now? I’ve only had this position for a few years now; surely I should have more experience as a leader before I even think of bringing another life into the world!” Luc shouted, red in the face, but Gideon wasn’t backing down.
“Need I remind you that you were born a mere year after I had taken my post as Chief! You will continue the tradition as I did, as your grandfathers before you did!” Gideon growled and we all flinched at the tone in his voice. “I have let you off these past couple of years, but while you are in FarLand, you will find your first wife!”
Luc stood there, clenching and unclenching his fists as he fought to keep his temper in check, but I knew him more than any of my brothers, and I knew he would storm out of here.
True to my thoughts, he rushed out, fume practically coming out of his ears and I sighed.
“I’ll go after him,” I said, and made to get up, but Heath held me to him.
“Nope I don’t think so. I haven’t seen you in weeks, and if you think I’m letting you out of my sight, you’re wrong.” He grinned down at me, and I rolled my eyes at him, but was suddenly lifted out of his lap and into Todd’s.
“Yeah, you’ve had your turn, and now it’s my turn for a Snow hug.” He said as held me to him, and I groaned, knowing I wasn’t getting out of this anytime soon.
That was another reason why I hated it when my brothers left, because as soon as they came back, no matter how long the trip, or which one of them had left, they all had to have a ‘Snow hug’ as they called it and wouldn’t let me away from their side for at least a whole day.
I had been by Heath for a few hours now (he had been the first to grab me) and I knew Todd was going to be just as insufferable and have me move my sleeping nest next to his. Thankfully Chase had already nodded off (he never could handle his drink), but I knew that on our journey tomorrow, he would do the same.
“Don’t you think Luc could need that?” I argued as I tried once more to get out of his hold, but he just pulled me harder against me.
“Luc’s had you for the weeks we’ve been away, so he can suck it.” Heath said as he tried to grab me from Todd, but he stood up with me in his arms, bridal style.
