Chapter 1

Mistkit followed Spikekit, Thornkit, Quailkit, and Quietkit out of the nursery. "Hey kits!" Coalpaw mewed. He had just come out of the apprentices den, alongside his sister Lostpaw, and their two friends, Thunderpaw and Abysspaw. "How are you guys?" Lostpaw asked. "We're good!" Spikekit mewed. Little did Mistkit know, Spikekit wouldnt be that way, not ever again. The wind swooshed above her head, the leaves blew in the wind. "Lostpaw and I were going to go hunting and I-" Coalpaw was suddenly cut off by a loud crack above their heads, a huge oak tree crashing down from the top of the hollow. "Look Out!" Starlingbird ran over and shoved the kits, besides Spikekit, away from the falling tree. Mistkit watched as Lostpaw shoved Coalpaw out of the way. Mistkit connected with Spikekits pain just as the tree hit the ground with a huge crash. A pain stabbed through her own body. She stumbled from the shock, before the pain faded. Spikekit was dead. "We have to get Spikekit out!" Echoface, her mother, had ran out of the nursery. "No." Mistkit mewed, "He's dead." "Shhh Mistkit, Don't think that" Echoface licked her head. "N-No....I'm not thinking it.....I know he's dead.....I can't connect to his pain anymore......" Mistkit mewed. "You can what?" Leafstar padded over. "Shh Leafstar, your frightening the dear one" a wise brown she-cat, Wetwood, padded over to Mistkit. "Explain to me, what can you do?" Wetwood gazed fondly at her.  "If I look at a cat, and try....I can feel the same pain, or the same feeling that they feel" Mistkit mewed. "Alright" the old she-cat meowed. "Can you see if Lostpaw is still alive? Her leg was hit by the tree when it fell" Wetwood mewed. Mistkit flicked her gaze to Lostpaw, and soon a sharp pain shot through her leg. She collapsed to the ground, the pain wouldnt fade. Soon everything faded to black.
