Emily's POV
"Emily?" Cam waved her hand in front of my face, jolting me from my thoughts.
"What?" I replied, struggling to slip on my shoes. I was eager to get home, collapse onto my bed, and try to forget about the brunette who had been occupying my mind all day.
"I said Miss Vieira isn't gone yet," Cam said, her voice tinged with anxiety.
"Huh? Who isn't gone yet?" I asked absently, my mind still reeling from the day's events.
"Miss Vieira! Could you please pay attention?" she whined.
"I'm sorry. She's always on time. She should have left two hours ago," I said, checking my phone.
"I know. She paid an hour ago and asked when we'd be done, but she hasn't left. Should I sneak you out the kitchen door?" Cam offered, her tone serious.
"Ms. Smith, please don't. I've already wasted enough time waiting for her," I heard a familiar voice say. At first, I thought I was imagining it—there was no way Ms. Vieira was actually here, reprimanding Cam about sneaking me out. But Cam's pale face and frozen stance confirmed it.
"Miss... Miss Vieira?" I watched as she appeared beside Cam, who seemed to have turned into an opossum, pretending to be dead.
"Miss Smith, I'll walk Miss Müller home. Thank you," she said without glancing at Cam. Her eyes remained fixed on me as she extended her hand to help me off the bench.
She studied my face closely, and it must have been obvious that I didn't want to be touched. To my surprise, she respected my space and raised her hand in a gesture of surrender.
I noticed her frustration as she ran her hand through her hair and took a deep breath. Clearly, she wasn't used to things not going her way.
"Shall we?" she asked, her impatience evident in her tone.
"Miss Vieira, I don't think Emily would like th—" Cam started, trying to defend me.
Nice try, Cam, I thought.
"Emily..." Her voice was soft and almost pleading. I felt a surge of willingness to follow her anywhere, just from the way she said my name. I stood up and took a step toward her, ready to follow her wherever she led. Maybe I was a bit of a pushover.
She raised her eyebrows in surprise and bit her lower lip, trying to hide a smile. I'd just revealed that I was vulnerable to her, and I wondered if she'd use my name like that more often. I might have just unlocked a new kink.
I gave Cam a reassuring nod. "Call me when you get home?" she asked, pulling me into a hug.
"Of course," I said, hugging her tightly and giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. Cam's hugs were my only physical comfort, and I needed that reassurance.
I knew she cared for me and wouldn't hurt me. I released Cam and turned to Miss Vieira, who had a fleeting strange expression on her face that quickly vanished when our eyes met. She looked away, returning to her usual demeanor.
She turned and began walking away, her hair swaying with each step, and the air filled with the intoxicating scent of her perfume.
Suddenly, she stopped and turned around, causing me to almost bump into her since I was lost in my own thoughts.
"Where's your jacket?" she asked, scanning me carefully. I shrugged; I didn't feel the need for one.
She gestured for me to wait, holding up her hand, and walked out to her car. She returned with a jacket and was about to put it on me but hesitated before handing it to me instead.
