It's been three months since Carlos came back. Since then he tried every day so hard. He made his best efforts to make me forgive him, to love him. He changed towards me. He's gentler, more respectful and most importantly, truthfully with his feelings. He told me everyday how he felt and how sorry he is and that didn't change. He already told me today.
Carlos currently sits in my restaurant and waits for his meal. He insisted that I make his food and when I tell you he ate the whole menu card, he did. He came everyday, eating something differently. This gesture made something cruel to my heart.
As I walk out of the kitchen I see Alejandro sitting in front of Carlos. This is why he wanted two plates of tortillas and I thought he was just hungry.
"Happy birthday, hermano", Alejandro smiles at Carlos
"Oh come one, gracias"
Today is his birthday?! This can't be. I forgot?! How could I forget his birthday? Shit, I feel so horrible.
I can't face him. This is embarrassing!
"Juan?", I hear Carlos asking
I briefly look at him before I quickly turn around and disappear into my office. How could I forget his birthday? I don't have a present, I don't have anything.
"Juan?", there's a knock
"Don't-", and before I can finish the sentence, he opens the door
"What's wrong?", he asks
"I forgot"
"What?"
"Your birthday", I blush in embarrassment
"Oh"
"I'm sorry that I forgot your birthday. I know the date! It's just-"
"It's okay, Juan", he laughs
"No, it's not. I'm sorry"
"Baby, everything is okay. Let's eat together"
"Okay", I breathe still ashamed
I order another plate and we sit down.
"Juan, hola", Alejandro smiles
I just smile and sit down.
"Are you mad at me?", he asks
"Not really but Elena called me yesterday"
"What happened, Jandro?", Carlos asks curiously
"She beat the shit out of me"
Carlos chuckles, "This explain the scratches"
"Stop laughing! I also hit you", I snap
"I'm sorry, baby"
Alejandro left after a while because he wanted to visit Elena. I don't know if that's a good idea.
