AREFA'S POV
I had to get up early for work today. Aurora had called the day before to advise me not to come in, but I couldn't remain at home all day. I'd lose my mind. I hadn't gotten any sleep all night and still haven't. It was 2 a.m., and all I could think about was the devil who had triggered my panic attack. I decided to get up and pour myself a cup of coffee before sitting down in front of the television to binge watch Goodgirls. After a few hours, I showered and prepared for work. I went to the coffee shop on foot. I was hoping I wouldn't have to deal with that disgusting man again. He was eerily similar to the two people I despised. My parents.
When I arrived at the coffee shop, Aurora called me to the back. She hugged me and told me that if I ever felt uneasy, I should tell her and return home. I smiled to reassure her that everything was alright with me. I was at a loss for words. The tenderness and love she shows me reminds me so much of my grandmother, and while I appreciate it, it also hurts me because I miss her so much. I walked up to the counter and began serving clients. The majority of them were pleasant, which made my job much easier. The doorbell rang after hours, informing me that customers were coming in. I smiled as I looked at the door, and my smile brightened as I saw who was there. It was the little girl that made me feel better yesterday. Layla, if my memory serves me correctly. She may not realize it, but she made my day. She became aware of my presence and dashed towards me, leaping onto me. 'I thought I'd never see you again,' she whispered, puckering her lips. 'If you left me, who was going to play tag with me?' she wondered, her eyes streaming. Her caretaker, whom I know as Valencia, was quickly by our side. She snatched Layla from my arms and scolded her. I told the woman that everything was OK, and then promptly took their order. I decided to join them as it was time for my lunch break anyways. I played with Layla, and we even gave each other nicknames.Mine was snuggles and her's sparkles
My lunch break had ended, and I needed to return to work. I said goodbye to Layla and Valencia and cleared the table. The day flew by, and it was soon time to return home. I packed my belongings and left. I ran into a lovely guy just as I was turning the corner, and one thing led to another, and he ended up asking me out. I said yes. Who wouldn't, he was a handsome man. I'd never had a boyfriend or even gone on a date before. I was constantly teased about my appearance because I was never the correct kind of 'thick.' Instead of a small waist and thick thighs, I have a belly, and my waist was adorned with stretch marks,my thighs rub together, and my cellulites don't help matters. I am astounded by what Diego, yes his name is Diego, saw in me. Maybe he asked me out just for the purpose of making fun of me. I'm looking forward to this date, but I always factor in the possibility of disappointment. I gave him my phone numbers, and he said he'd text me about our date.
