James's POV
I smashed the liquor bottle over the drunk's head. The man slumped face-first into the counter in front of him and fell to the ground unconscious.
One of the girls behind the counter had a gun pointed at the unconscious man, I laughed internally, her stance was terrible. I recognized her from school, she was the one who caught me at the negative end of Coach Vastor's meltdown. Tyler I think her name was.
Tyler was very pretty. she had Jade green eyes and a flawless complexion, with light brown hair pulled into a messy braid halfway down her back. strands were falling around her heart-shaped face.
The other girl I didn't recognize, looked like she was from a different country, with dark skin and dark hair, but light blue eyes.
"Your stance is terrible. even the very intoxicated drunk trying to rob you had better footing." I watched in amusement as Tyler's eyes flashed in irritation. I went unanswered though as she went to her shaking friend and whispered some soothing words to her, which seemed to calm her down.
"Carry, are you ok?" a nod. "ok, well why don't you go get the broom from the back closet and I'll help you clean this glass up, we don't want anyone cutting their foot, do we?" Carry turned on her heels and almost ran to the back room.
"Does your friend not talk?" I said to Tyler, throwing out the broken bottle. she shot a glare at me that could've killed the Grim Reaper. "Like, does she just not choose to, or...?"
"Just leave it be, take the hint!" Tyler snapped suddenly, something like anger rushed through me, but I smashed it down until I could barely feel it intruding. Tyler scrunched her nose up under her rounded glasses in indecision, probably deciding whether to kick me out or pull through her aggravation.
"Ok, ok, geez didn't realize it was such a sensitive subject, I'll leave it alone." I shoved my hands in my jacket pockets, just settling in the awkward silence my sentence caused.
Tyler packed up her many electronics sitting on the table into her backpack, including some snacks and her very decorative coffee. she pulled her hood up and walked out the door. She is bent on ignoring me, I can't believe an actual girl is immune to my good looks and amazing personality. Touchy-Touchy. and not even a thank you? Gosh.
The girl Tyler called Carry was now sweeping up the broken glass left over from my heroic attempt at saving her damn life into a garbage bag. without even looking up Carry pointed to the closed sign hanging on the door.
"Guess I'll take my leave then." I raised my eyebrows, awaiting her answer.
Nothing.
Okay then.
Since they won't be my friends, then I guess my pack of smokes and Jack Daniels will have to do.
Tyler's POV
Well, that ended well.
"You're supposed to be making friends," my mother said this morning, "Maybe even get a boyfriend." Yeah well, suck it, mother. I'm a fully functional human being even without many friends and the fact I'm technically nocturnal. And I don't need a boyfriend. they're a waste of time anyway. I don't need another heartache weighing on my thin fucking shoulders.
You know, I never actually ended up getting that kid's name, oh well. he's probably not gonna be around for very long since it's halfway through twelve grade.
I'm now sitting on a park bench, with one lonely lamp above me. I should probably head back now, I shivered from the cold and looked at my wristwatch. oh shit. It's almost midnight. What if mom wakes up? That is the only thought that crossed my mind.
Until I realized it's unlikely. She was out like a light. I finally looked up from my computer and looked at my surroundings. The park was dark and spooky, like a haunted forest in a movie. Yup, I should get going.
Maybe I should check on Carry, make sure she's all right. I did leave her very suddenly after that attempted robbery...
I heard a rustling behind me, interrupting my thoughts, and I turned my head so fast that I was surprised that I didn't break my neck. I shook my head at myself, there was nothing there.
you're just paranoid. Silly me. I continued packing up my stuff, going a little quicker this time.
Quiet footsteps soon followed the rustling.
Oh, fuck this.
I slung my bag over my shoulder and bolted for the entrance to the park, soon running out of breath from the effort.
I heard the steps gaining.
shit shit shit fuck this shit. I'm not fucking dying tonight. I have mid-terms tomorrow.
I heard whistling, and then something hard hit me in the back of my head, a searing pain entered my skull.
Dizziness washed over me and I collapsed on the ground.
The last thing I saw was a tall figure appearing at my left.
I let the dizziness take over.
And then everything went black.
...
I woke up again sometime later with a bag over my throbbing head, and a hard metal floor beneath me. I was propped up uncomfortably against a metal wall, and then I noticed the metal was moving.
I was in a vehicle.
I don't know where the fuck I am, or who took me, all I do know is that my bag is missing and my sweatpants pockets are empty, which means they searched me. Great, No phone.
I must have made some noise because before I knew it, something flat and hard hit the side of my head, (a frying pan?) and I was spun into darkness once again.
