Portia pushed open the wooden bedroom door. The girl was still fast asleep.
She crept over to the four poster bed and pushed at the girls shoulders. “Yvonne, wake up. Yvonne?” She whispered, tugging at the bed sheets.
She woke up. Her dark hair was tangled and her eyes were as red as her lips. “What is it Portia? Why have you awoken me from my slumber?” She asked, rubbing her eyes.
“Princess, we have to leave” Portia said, hurrying the girl out of bed. She passed her nightgown over to her.
“Why? What’s going on?” The girl asked again. Her eyes were starting to tear up.
Portia took the girl by the hand and rushed out of the bedroom and down the hallway, ignoring the sound of her weeping.
The sound of horses came from the outside. Who would be entering the castle grounds at this time of night? “I know this is confusing now but you have to trust me. I will explain when we get there”
“Get where?” The girl nearly tripped when being dragged through the castle. Where was she going? She thought she was going to be kidnapped, forced to live life as a peasant stuck up in a tower, just like in the stories Portia used to tell her.
Another fleet of stairs later the two arrived outside the castle. Portia let go of the poor girl’s hand.
There was a horse and carriage waiting for her there. “Yvonne, you need to know something about your stepmother” Portia said.
“Yes?”
Portia sighed before telling the girl. “She isn't who you think she is,” The girl gasped as she listened to those few words, “She wants you dead for her own greater good. You need to escape the castle”
“But why? She can’t want me dead? Where will I go?” The girl said, stuttering on each word as her tears trickled down her soft cheeks.
Then Portia placed something in her hand. When the girl opened her hand, she saw a ring of thin black string, with a crystal on the end of it, like a necklace.
The crystal was a sharp purple diamond shape and it looked like something was here was something glowing inside of it, like a ray of pure sunlight, captured inside this crystal.
Portia helped put it around her neck the girl's pale and thin neck. “As long as you have the crystal you will be safe. Read the letter in the carridge, i will explain all. I'm so sorry," A tear started to form the sad old woman, who was a dear friend to the girl's cheek, "Now go. Go!”
The girl was then rushed into her carriage. It started to move away from the castle, and as it did the girl waved goodbye to her home.
Once the girl sat down, she saw, next to her was battered old piece of paper with several teares at the sides.
This had all gone so quickly. Just a minute ago she was dreaming about princes' and magical worlds where she would go on adventures to, away from this place, of which she started to be bored of. She started to ask herself if this was a good thing that she was to leave the kingdom?
She picked the note up and read slowly, savouring everyword as she read it out loud.
Dear Yvonne
You must leave this place soon. Don't return here otherwise, you will be killed. You are very special girl, but as you are in the care of your step mother, you will be used for bad.
You are one of the Larvatus. They are powerfull creatures, that mortals and other species know as warlocks who can do great things. But also bad things. They are no humans, I tell you that.
Your step mother is one of the Opscurum, the dark side of Larvatus.
The crystal I gave you is a Larvatus charm. It is an Incendo charm. This charm will stop you from becoming what you are destined to be.
I'm sending you to Riverview for a reason. There a crystals hidden there. Being around the crystals is the safest you will be.
I know this letter is brief, but it had to be if anybody find this.
I wish you the best. I hope one day I can see you again.
