It was a warm and pleasant summer morning. Birds awake, nice cool wind and enjoyable view of kids messing around. It wasn’t like this inside though. It was bitter cold, murky, lonely. It felt like hell. I was sitting in the middle of my room with my legs cross and my face pressed down onto my hands, thinking, thinking deeply about the entire summer, from the very beginning of July till now, 27th of August.
Would you like to hear my story? About a girl who learned to love and about a boy who almost drowned? Then let me go back to that afternoon, 10th of July, oh yes, start of summer.
I always was the ‘unpopular kid’, but can you blame me? Would you want to dress like a slut and be a bitch just to earn that bit of ‘fame’? I don’t think so. Well, I actually tried to become one of those dolls. I was tired of being thrown around and being lonely. It didn’t work though. So I ended up like this: unpopular, violent, mean, rude-simply not welcome to be around. Matthew and Erin are the only two people who are able to put up with me, that’s why they’re my best friends.
It was 10th of July, I got back home from the last day of school and for the rest of that day I just laid in bed and stared at the ceiling. Till my phone was ringing. ‘I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice, I’ve said it a thousand fucking times, that I’m okay, that I’m fine, that it’s all just in my mind’ went my phone, I laid there listening to my ringtone, then eventually got up, sighed and picked it up from the floor and answered it with a lazy ‘’Yes?’’
It was Matt. ‘’Don’t seem happy about me calling, do you?’’
‘’You know I’m like barely ever happy’’ I answered staring at the wall in front of me then laid back down on my bed
‘’Fair enough. Well, anyway, just wondered if you want to go somewhere?’’ he asked
‘’Today?’’ I asked him, not really wanting to go anywhere
‘’Yes. Today, please Gemma’’ he pleaded
I kept quiet for a while thinking whether to go or not, then eventually I said ‘’Depends where’’
‘’A park? Some pub? Our rooftop?’’ he suggested
‘’Our rooftop’’ I decided
‘’Great. I’ll be at your house around 7:00pm?’’ he asked
‘’Okay, bye’’ I said and hang up then pressed my face down onto my pillow groaning.
I didn’t really feel like getting out of my little world today, but I didn’t want to hurt Matt, he doesn’t mean any harm; he just wants me to socialise. Not thinking about that any longer, I looked at my watch to check the time. 5:00pm. 2 hours before he comes. Enough time for me to travel to my petite world full of candy, unicorns, rain, bleeding red and pitch black sky, a hill top about to break and me sitting on it about to fall down with it. Perfect.
