"But Master Karr!"
"I'm sorry, padawan, but to keep Jaesa hidden from the Sith Empire, she must not be contacted."
Saiyah stood before the Jedi Master, wrestling to keep her emotions at bay. The Council had agreed to send Jaesa off with Nomen Karr on a secret mission, but they wouldn't say where. Nomen Karr had insisted that all contact with Jaesa be cut off, lest the Sith Empire intercept transmissions and track her down. Saiyah knew that Jaesa's powers would be a lethal weapon against the Sith, but the lengths Karr was taking to hide her were so unfair to the rest of them.
Saiyah and Jaesa's eyes locked, conveying the sadness they felt. "Will we ever see each other again?" Saiyah asked quietly. Jaesa shook her head. "I don't know. If we do, I doubt it will be under peaceful circumstances." Nomen Karr put a hand on his padawan's shoulder. "Come, Jaesa. The shuttle is waiting." She nodded. "I'll be right there, Master."
Jaesa threw her arms around Saiyah's neck, and the girls hugged each other tightly. A few stray tears trickled down their faces. "No matter what happens, I'll always be your friend, Saiyah." "And I will always be yours, Jaesa."
They let go, sealing their promises with a nod, before Jaesa turned around and walked to the shuttle where her Master was waiting. At the entry ramp, she looked back and waved. Saiyah waved back, choking back tears that were threatening to fall. It wasn't until the shuttle doors had closed and the ship disappeared into the clouds that Saiyah collapsed to her knees. She sobbed quietly into her hands, soaking her gloves with tears.
Despite the short time she was there, Jaesa had become her closest friend. She didn't cling to the Jedi Code for ideals and didn't allow it to dictate everything she did. Jaesa was realistic and looked at the galaxy for the way things were while also understanding where the Jedi fit in. Since she had arrived, Jaesa and Saiyah had been inseparable; and now, she was gone. Saiyah didn't know if she would ever see her again. It will not take the Sith long to discover her powers and try to kill her. I pray I will be at her side when that day comes.
Saiyah sniffed, wiping the tears from her eyes. She would miss Jaesa terribly, but she knew she would never see her again if she didn't continue her training. Saiyah stood, and went inside the Temple to find Master Timmns. However, no sooner had she entered the Jedi Library than did her holocom start beeping, distracting her from her thoughts.
Curious, Saiyah pulled it from her belt and hit the red answer button. To her relieved surprise, it was Master Timmns. "Master, I've been looking for you. Where are you?" she asked. "Saiyah, come to the study rooms immediately. There is an urgent matter we must discuss," the dark Mirialan said hastily. Saiyah cocked her head curiously. She could sense both confusion and excitement from the Jedi. What could this be about? "Have I done something wrong, Master?" "No, but we don't have much time. Come quickly."
Saiyah entered the meditation chambers to see Master Timmns waiting for her, alongside another Jedi Master she didn't recognize. An older woman with green eyes, and surprisingly dark brown hair for her age, wore white and brown robes like that of a consular. She was holding a datapad in her hand. "Saiyah, this is Master Yuon Par," Timmns said with delight. "She's brought me some information that you must know."
Yuon held out the datapad to Saiyah with a smile. "This is for you, Saiyah. I'm sorry I can't stay longer, but I must be at the Master's Retreat in a few moments to meet my new padawan." Timmns nodded to her, and Yuon disappeared from the room.
Saiyah glanced back at the doorway, then turned to her master, who looked like an energetic puppy with the wide grin he wore on his face. "Master, what is going on?" she asked, laughing a little as she spoke. He pointed to the datapad she now held. "Read it, and you'll see," Timmns said.
