Kennys pov

I hesitantly pulled away from our hug, the warm feeling of happiness leaving my heart as soon a I did. One reason I decided to pick up the phone was so I didn't wake Butter's parents, even though they were quite heavy sleepers I didn't want to risk it. Another was because it might've been Kyle, and he would definitely have something important to say to me if he was calling this late.

"Sorry butters, I have to take this right quick." I said to him, a look of disappointment on his face, I wondered why but just brushed it off since I had to answer this call.

I stepped into the hallway and closed the bathroom door, being careful when I shut it so its old hinges didn't make too much noise, I pressed the accept button after seeing Kyles name pop up. As soon as I brought the old phone up to my ear I was greeted with Kyles annoyingly high pitched and gibberish-sounding screaming.

"Woah! dude chill out I can't understand what you're saying!" I whisper-yelled into the phone, covering the side of my face that was closest to Butter's parents room. Bringing the phone away from my ear slightly as I was sure my eardrums would burst if they had to listen to that one more time, I heard Kyle take a few breaths before he slowed his words down to make sense.

"I have proof of what Cartmans been doing, you don't have to just trust me about this anymore." Kyle spoke slower than he had before but his words still seemed to mash up in my brain. I stayed on the line, silent for awhile. The only audible thing was my breathing and the sound of Kyles heater in the background, I was just waiting for myself to finally process those words. he had physical proof, we could get Cartman in some serious trouble for this. Kyle interrupted my thoughts about cartman so suddenly that I almost jumped.

"Kenny? you still there? I said I have proof" Kyle questioned me, I don't think he was expecting a reply since I could almost hear him jump a bit when I did.

"Yeah..I'm here, I'm just a bit shocked that it's real" I responded while rubbing my cheek softly in the spot that Cartman had punched. I bet it looked really bad now, maybe it had started gaining that purple color that  loved so much, it reminds me of my childhood, when I'd get bruises everywhere, whether it was from playing outside with my friends or my siblings, or whether it was from my dad, from those times he got really drunk and started hitting me and calling me slurs, not recognizing me as his son but rather as, 'someone in his way'. Kyle had started to say something about his proof when I interrupted, still in some kind of zoned out state.

"I mean, I know Cartman has done horrible things before but I never thought he'd go this far, not just for his..revenge" I spoke, lightly shaking my head and gently chewing on my thumbnail. I looked over towards the bathroom door and swore I saw it close, but maybe my current state of mind was just playing tricks to make me even more stressed.

"Look dude, I know it's hard to believe, and I know you're really upset about this but please, don't do anything about Cartman on your own, if he would go that far for revenge for an incident that happened in fourth grade, imagine how far he would go for a more recent incident, I'll just come over to your place tomorrow and show you the proof, okay?" Kyle said all of this with  slight empathetic tone in his voice, as if he was trying to 'calm me down', It half worked.

"okay, sure come over around ten thirty tomorrow, I'll be home then." I replied as calmly as I could. Me and Kyle exchanged goodbyes before he hung up the phone, I felt like sliding down on the floor and sitting there for the rest of eternity but decided against it, having a mental breakdown on Butter's floor at two in the morning was not something I intended to do today. Instead I slowly opened the bathroom door, I found Butters standing in the same place I left him and when he saw me he gave me what I think was supposed to be a happy smile, it looked more like an unsure grin but maybe he was just tired. Thinking about Butters being tired made me tired and I yawed before asking Butters a question.

"Hey, Butters do you think we could go sleep now?" I asked through a yawn, bringing my hands down from their previously outstretched position in the air.

"Yeah Ken, sure.." Butters said this with a smile but I could tell it wasn't one hundred percent genuine. Disregarding that I followed Butters into his room, it was on the opposite side of the hall to his parents room.

I took my parka and snow boots off, realizing that I probably should've taken them off at the door where the rest of the shoes were, I didn't want to get Butter's white rug dirty so I put them on the exposed wood in front of his door. I hung my parka on his beige cushioned desk chair, it looked like the material was chipping off, I noticed as I turned around that Butter's room seemed to be the most..worn..looking compared to all the other rooms in his house, for example his desk chair, it was chipping away yet the chairs in the living room made of the same material weren't. His turquoise wall paint was also missing some spots, exposing the drywall underneath, I found this unusual since his mom was known for repainting their house on the regular. I figured I wouldn't bother him about this since he was already half asleep in his bed, he left just enough room for me to lay down and I gratefully used this space, falling asleep for the first time in a while, comfortably.
