"Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug!" The crowd was gathering around him, chanting as he drinks every ounce of liquor in the bottle. He smashes it on the ground and cheers, the crowd cheering loud with him.
'Ugh, can they just shut up for once?' Nex rubs their temple with their free hand, annoyed from how loud everyone is being.
They sigh, closing their book and standing up, putting it back in their satchel. "I have got to find a new place to get some time to myself." They mumble and starts to walk towards the exit.
Suddenly they are being wrapped into somebody's arm in a tight squeeze. "Hey, where ya goin' pal? The party just started!"
Nex groans and pushes away from the stranger. "It's not a party, we're in a bar." The stranger chuckles and sticks out a hand, "I'm Tom! Tom Gunner! You?" Nex looks Tom up and down, he's a fairly muscular guy with Burgundy hair and Green eyes surrounded by a gold trim. He's wearing a red and green flannel with some dirtied jeans and cowboy boots.
"So you're the guy everybody was cheering on?" Nex looks him back in the eyes, raising an eyebrow. The man chuckles again, sporting a bright and toothy smile, "Yep! That's me alright! Drank that whole bottle of liquor myself!" Tom sighs in seeming pleasure. "Now, mind telling me your name stranger?" Tom looks down on Nex, who is quite a great deal shorter than him.
Nex rolls their eyes, thinking for a moment. They aren't going to give their name to a random stranger, so instead they think up an alias. "Name's Craig." Nex shakes Tom's hand with a plastered on smile.
Tom takes Nex by the arm and struts over to the counter, leaning on it and motioning the bartender over. "I'll take a beer and my friend here will take a- uhm-" Tom looks over at Nex. "What do you drink buddy?" Nex shakes their head, "I don't drink, and I am not your buddy."
Tom gives a good hearty laugh and pats Nex's back, nearly knocking the wind out of them. "Nonsense! Bartender! Two beers!"
Nex rolls their eyes and pulls out their book, they start to read when it's swiped out of their hands. "Hey!" Tom chuckles and holds the book up high so Nex can't reach it. "Relax, just take some time to chat! Don't hole yourself up in this book!"
Nex stares at Tom, eyes piercing through his soul. "You will give me my book back or so help me your head will be so far up your ass that seeing the light of day will never be an option for you again."
Tom blinks and hands the book back to Nex, chuckling nervously. "Ha, ha ha. Oh you're a- you're a funny one aren't cha?" Tom goes to put a hand on Nex's shoulder but immediately stops and rests his hand on the counter when Nex glares at him.
Nex stuffs their book back into their satchel and waits for the drinks to come by. Soon enough the drinks are passed over to the both of them, and Tom pays.
Tom clears his throat, "Everyone! Gather 'round and come meet my good friend Craig here!" Tom puts an arm around Nex and squeezes them close, earning a low growl from them.
Everyone in the bar gathers around, greeting Nex and saying their welcomes.
Not too long after Tom clears his throat again, grabbing everybody's attention. He stands up, towering over the crowd with a wide grin. "Everybody, let me have your attention please!"
Nex scoffs, 'As if you didn't have their attention already.' Taking a sip of their beer and grimacing at the taste, they set it down on the counter.
"We all know how tough times are now, with the world going to shit and all. But as long as we stick together we can push through this!" Tom holds up his beer, "So, let's have some fun for tonight, and drink like it's the end of the world!"
The crowd cheers, everyone chugging their beverages and chatting nonstop. Unaware of their fates to come in the near future.
