Maeve:
Cafe Contigo was now shut to the public, though I suppose I'm not really "the public" since I started dating Luis Santos during the trauma of the game. He's been great to me. He helped my nerves when I had to return to school after I prevented the deaths of at least sixty people. And as I lay in his arms, in a dark booth in Cafe Contigo, I feel calm. "I love you." I mutter, on the verge of sleep.
"I love you too." He whispers in my ear. "But we can't stay here all night. Let's get you home."
I lift my head off of his chest, and stretch (I feel as though my entire skeletal system has just clicked). I stand up to get my coat but just then, there is a mechanical buzz coming from my phone. It's Knox. I decline the call and text him.
I'm with Luis, call later.
His reply is instant.
EMERGENCY! Pls answer!
Before I can help it, I have transformed into curios Maeve. I thumb the call button and wait for him to pick up. "Hello?"
"Maeve!" His voice is a rush of panic. "He's dead."
Suddenly, I'm not on the phone to Knox. Im staring into the eyes of my- then- seventeen year old sister, who just found out that Simon Kelleher was dead. I shake myself. That was two years ago. "Who's dead?" I ask
"Mr Mannings." He cried.
I feel my concern and panic ebb away. "Thank God!" I say. "That's good, right?"
"He was stabbed." He says. "In our shop."
Shit. "And now the police suspect one of you did it." I finish for him.
"We don't know that yet." Knox replied. "But it was heavily implied."
Hello all! I'm going to try to get at-least two chapters out today! :D
