Nate:
"Are we really doing this?" I ask Bronwyn as I pour myself a cup of coffee.
Bronwyn sighs. "Apparently so." She says. "I just hope this doesn't blow up in our faces."
I can sense the anxiety from half way across the kitchen. So- like any good boyfriend should- I go over and kiss her. "It's fine." I assure her. "We'll be fine." And, as if on cue- Bronwyn's phone vibrates. "Who is it?" I ask peering over her shoulder.
"Maeve." She says, handing me the text to read,
Café Contigo. 3:45. We need to strategize!Café Contigo was empty aside from our table (me, Bronwyn, Knox, Luis and Maeve). Bronwyn rests on my shoulder and says. "I guess we should start with the question we did two years ago."
"Who else had a motive to kill Mr Mannings?" I finish for her.
Knox paused, searching every inch of his brain. "Mrs Mannings?" He suggested. "If I were married to that old hag, I'd murder him too."
"Be careful with what you say." Luis Santos warned, and quite frankly, I agree with him.
"He wasn't married," Maeve said, peering over the top of her laptop. "Or at least not since 2002,"
"How'd you know that?" I ask
"Bayview watch," She explains. "It's an app I came across while trying to hunt down the Simon killer."
Luis kissed her softly on the head. "Your too smart"
"Watch it!" I warned, I was protective of Maeve like a sister.
"You and Bronwyn kiss all the time!" Maeve protests.
I shrugged. "Anyway" Maeve continued. "The last female in Bayview with the surname Mannings died in 2002."
Knox slumped back in his seat. "I'm stumped..."
Luis turned the laptop so it faced him. "Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way?" Lewis countered.
I leaned forward so our noses almost touched. "How so?"
"Well, when Simon was murdered..." Lewis began. "You stopped looking for who hated Simon and started looking at who hated you."
Maeve and Knox stared at each other. "Jared."
