A wonderful morning

A/N I really have no better excuse for why this is so fricking late other than writer's block is a curse. I have had absolutely zero inspiration to continue writing on this story until now, (thank the first spinjitzu master for other people writing Kai angst fanfics). So I have no idea when the next chapter is gonna be written, probably not too soon though. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy Kai's "wonderful" morning ;)

Kai shot up from his bed, panting breaths growing more frantic by the second as he grabbed at his hair, trying, and failing, to stop the nightmare from taking hold of his mind.

Getting tangled into the covers in an attempt to get away from his fantasies, he ended up falling off the bed, the sudden pain that shot through him snapping him out of his panicked state and back to reality.

Eyes darted around the room as he slowly came to the realization that he was safe in his room in the bounty. After realizing this his breathing slowed and his tense body relaxed as he let out a chuckle.

Brushing away some hair that covered his eyes and stuck to his sweaty forehead, he brought his knees slightly closer to his chest, arms resting on them as he stared at the tangled covers around his feet.

As his mind went down a spiral of self-hatred, he found his eyes stinging with tears. Kai tried to not let them escape, but not even that was something he could do right as they started streaming down his face.

"I'm such a pathetic person. Can't even deal with a fucking nightmare properly." He laughed, hands tightening into fists.

Blinking away some tears and wiping away the rest he stared out through the only window in his room, eyes fixated on the dark, yet colorful early morning sky.

With a sigh, the brunet rose to his feet and tossed the covers back onto his bed. He grabbed some new clothes and then made his way to the biggest of the two shared bathrooms on the ship.

Luckily he didn't bump into any of the others on his way there, meaning he could focus on taking his shower.

As he took off his shirt he found himself staring at his torso and the bandages that covered the lower part of it.

He sighed and started to unwrap it, cringing at the slight pain that zapped through the wound at the contact with air. A quick look showed that the wound had closed almost fully, but was still sore and needed to be cleaned.

The hot water felt relaxing against his skin, especially his shoulder and the side wound. He could have stayed there for the rest of the day, but the brunet knew the others would kick his ass if he used up all the hot water.

So he reluctantly turned off the shower and stepped out, grabbing the towel he had laid out for himself before.

He went through the motions of cleaning his wound, wrapping it in new bandages, and getting dressed as if he was in a trance, his mind not properly present, thoughts he couldn't understand screaming at him from all directions.

It wasn't until he caught sight of himself in the mirror that the screaming thoughts faded away, letting his mind come back to the present. And he found himself staring at his reflections, taking in every detail about himself, the dark bags under his bloodshot eyes, his normally spiky hair now sticking to his head, dripping of water. But what made him pause was something that was only noticeable when you looked really closely.

His normally auburn eyes had a slight hit of ghostly green swirling in them. The sight made him overwhelmed with emotions so strong they threatened to hurt him.

Guilt. He should have been stronger, he could have prevented all this.

Anger. Why couldn't he have been better, less pathetic... All this was so fucking terrible.
