The stars decorated the sky over Ninjago like fireflies caught in a fly net and the moon lowered a blanket of dimly blue-white light over the land.
Walking along the shore of one of Ninjago's many beaches, were two of the land's respected heroes. The soft sound of waves soothed the echo of loud music in their minds, having just recently left the nightclub they had been hanging out at just earlier.
Kai's distant gaze was the biggest reason Lloyd wasn't breaking the silence with chattering, and instead just existing in his friend's presence as they walked along the shore.
The blond was no idiot, he knew very well there was something his friend wasn't telling him, but just as he knew the brunet well enough to notice when he was hiding something, he also knew him well enough to know that pushing the issue could only make the situation worse.
However, Kai was no idiot either. He was fully aware of the blond's suspicion and knew that eventually, he would receive questions about his health again. But it was pointless. Asking how he was doing gained his family nothing, and he was not going to let them think otherwise.
Morro was unfortunately right about something, Kai was having a really hard time going through with his plan to minimize the damage the ghost's revenge would cause.
Though, could anyone blame him? Not really. He was used to being the big brother of the team, always being there for the others and always available to protect them from anything that could want to harm them. He almost didn't know how to be cruel and mean to them, how to make them hate him. And with the circumstances, anything he did successfully would only make his family's worries worse about what he was put through while Morro's prisoner.
But they had nothing to worry about.....He was fine....or at least, that's what he tried to convince himself. Because he wasn't really fine, was he? He hadn't been fine for a long time. He knew when it all started, just not when it developed into what it was now.
Slightly shaking his head, he forced his mind away from where it was headed and focused on the situation at hand.
He had made a deal with Morro that gave him a chance to minimize the damage that the ghost's plan would cause. But he was having trouble doing his part with that and needed to do better.
That's all that is important right now. His bad mental health was not important. It never had been and never would be.
"It's getting late, maybe we should head back." Kai looked up at Lloyd, processing what he'd just said before nodding, realizing he was right.
"Yeah, wouldn't want to worry the others...."
...
When they got back to the ship, their teammates were still sitting in front of the TV, however, Wu was no longer present as he had been when they left.
The other four looked up at them, Nya raising an eyebrow in concern, "You alright Kai? You left so suddenly."
Forcing a smile, the brunet nodded, "Yeah, I'm alright. Me and Lloyd headed into the city for a while and walked around, so I'm good."
His sister didn't seem fully convinced but she remained from bothering him with more questions.
"Well," Kai started, "I'm gonna head to bed, see you guys in the morning." He started walking towards the doorway, wanting nothing more than to get to his room and be left alone.
"Kai, wait!" The brunet stopped, he had a heavy suspicion he knew what was going to come next, so he waited for Cole to continue speaking, but he didn't turn towards the others, leaving his back facing them.
