SIRIUS INHALED A DEEP BREATH IN, not knowing what to say or do.

was he really going to take orders from avery and mulciber?

it had only been a few days, but the amount of drama that took place here would keep you entertained for years on end.

he only hoped he didn't have to stay for all of it.

whistling as he made his way to bellatrix's cell, as if to make it seem as if nothing mattered to him, and he was the most carefree, laid-back person you'd ever see.

''yes?'' he asked, his expression plain and simple. ''we thought you might like to join us at our meeting for some news."

the boy stayed silent, not wanting to ruin anything that had a small possibility of happening. ''we have word from the dark lord."

bellatrix spoke, her eyes glistening with excitement at the mere thought of seeing voldemort rise to power again. he was about to stop himself before he bit his tongue.

maybe, he'd listen to them just this once.

''we know you have a history of being a blood-traitor, mixing in with mud-bloods and their kind, but we've chosen to forgive you.'' the lady spoke again, but this time sirius had to try harder to keep his mouth closed.

the awful nicknames that had separated him from his family and that had made his friends cry, fell off her lips as if they were food. she had to consume something every day to keep her alive.

''we know the dark lord would take whatever help he'd like to get at this moment and he'll gracefully look over your past but you must agree to stay loyal and take the dark mark.''

was that it? to join the elite death eater squad, you had to promise to be loyal, say a few words, and get a tattoo?

gee, this was going to be easier than he'd ever thought. ''alright,'' he muttered, picking out the right words to say.

''what's in it for me? "

pin drop silence. did he say something wrong?

''working with the lord is more than reward, black." she hissed, clearly furious at his choice of words.

''calm down, bella.'' avery muttered, rolling his eyes at her behavior.

''work with us and we'll have your sentence shortened.'' sirius wanted to scoff. did he think that getting a few months, maybe years off would make him change his mind?

"please, how much would be cut?" he scoffs. "you'll be out in five years, maybe six?''

if it weren't for the loud noises of the guards outside, they all would have heard sirius' mouth drop to the floor.

''have a think about it and get back to us, but remember, no one else must know.'' mulciber finally spoke, getting the last word in before the younger boy had to leave to get back to his cell.

''sirius!'' a voice called out.

''happy birthday.'' giving the older lads a grin he'd never shown anyone before, he scuttled back to his cell, letting the thoughts race through his head.

days, weeks, months, now a year had gone by, but the thought still remained in his head.

time had moved by so slowly yet rapidly that he couldn't make out what was real and what was a figment of his imagination.

it was now march and there was much more light in the cells than there used to be.

the ministry had added new rules when it came to imprisonment because of the death eaters they had caught in the past few months.

the prisoners became much more friendly with each other, either because they knew them from years back or because they had made sure they'd kill the person before they left the hell hole.

even so, no one could deny the tension, so, there was a new rule where everyone had to go outside for at least two hours every day.

that seemed to do it for a lot of them.

sirius couldn't remeber the last time he had breathed in air that wasn't contaminated by hundreds of other people. although they were allowed outside, their spirits weren't exactly lifted.

dementors were still roaming around, making sure nobody could escape. at this stage, the brunette was very used to the creatures that roamed around the place.

he had managed to find something that made him stand his ground. each time the creature would sweep past him, his knees would buckle, but he was able to keep his composure much better than when he first got here.

he remembered reading in fifth year for defense against the dark arts about how you could fight off dementors. expecto patronum.

it was quite a difficult spell to master, but once you got the hang of it, it was easy enough.

the only problem with that spell was that he wasn't able to think of one specific moment where he'd be able to focus it on. however, the idea of him performing the patronus charm was very much off the table.

walking back to his cell, sirius realized how much his hair had grown and that now he had a beard too.

it was so unruly and messy, his insides hurt at the thought of not cutting it. however, at least he looked the part.

his mind was trying to settle on one answer, and it stuck with no. unless there was a reason, he wasn't going to cut his hair or shave.

even at the smallest amount of facial hair, he looked much older than he was supposed to be.

his eyes met his in the mirror, and he gave himself a smile. something he hadn't done in weeks.

''hi.'' he croaked, darting his eyes around his face to see what could be done, but he eventually left himself alone.

his mind had been quite preoccupied by a question, but there was something else that had managed to take its place.

what he noticed was that security had been reduced to so little that he was slightly worried about himself.

everything in the prison was made to work without the need for actual people to be there and operate them.

the only real people there were the chefs that made and served the food, a nurse, who sirius found out was nothing like the lovely, madam pomfrey he had in hogwarts, and well, dementors. if you could count them as people, that is.

it wasn't like anybody could escape. even if you managed to make it down past the rocks by the sea, you'd never be able to survive the ice cold waves that touched your feet.

of course, sirius hadn't ever gone down there. he easily could have, but the idea of leaving here was becoming something much more believable than it had been about a year ago.

there wasn't much you could do around azkaban anyway, and well, there was something nagging in his brain.

the question. would he join mulciber, avery and bellatrix to be a death eater?

the answer his mind said differed from what his brain had been saying.

there was nothing to lose at this moment, and it was the same situation for all of them there.

however, bellatrix was married to rudolphus but the boy was sure the older man was glad to get a break from the witch.

he was going to tell them his answer. to be honest, the boy had no idea what he was actually going to say.

he hadn't considered the things he'd have to do or the consequences he'd have to face.

right now, he needed something to fill his void. his empty void that had filled his heart instead of what was supposed to be there, warmth and happiness.

sirius was going to walk out of his cell and tell his cousin that he was going to be one of them.

besides, he'd get a really cool tattoo.
