The Saving Light

Aether POV:

After I defeated a hoard of Hilichurls, my mind went back to only thinking about that adeptus boy... "Aether? Are you okay?", I heard a voice. It was Paimon... She was looking at me with a worried expression. "You've been zoning out a lot lately... Paimon is getting worried!", Paimon said as she looked deeply into my eyes. "I'm fine! Don't worry so much. I'm just thinking about something...", I told Paimon to calm her down. "Traveller...you worry me. A lot... Is it because we still don't have any signs of your sister?" I didn't answer and started to walk to Jueyun Carst for my next commission. My mind drifted off again... I heard Paimon trying to talk to me but I couldn't hear what she was saying...

Xiao POV:

I heard an annoying voice as I was walking through the adepti realm. Oone of those pesky humans was here again... As I got closer to whoever was talking I saw that Paimon and Aether were here. >Why are they here?< When I listened more closely I could tell Paimon was trying to talk to Aether but he didn't reply... >I wonder why...<

"Aether! Please just listen to Paimon! I don't know what's going on with you but you have been acting really weird the past few days!"

>What does Paimon mean..?<

"Please Aether... Just answer Paimon, please..." "Please just shut up for a second! I've had enough of you're caring too much self. I've had enough of you. I've had enough of everyone! I am single handingly saving two nations from some kind of ancient god in the hope to get information about my sister but no! No one is helping! No one! ABSOLUTELY NO ONE!"

I was shocked to see Aether this angry. I've only seen his happy expression... And his tired expression... Maybe he's just burnt out. I don't know...

"Huh..? Xiao?", Paimon looked at me from afar.

I guess she noticed me... Aether walked away without her noticing... I went over to the travel guide only to find her crying to me for help. "You know I don't understand human emotions..." "Paimon knows that b-but could you please just try! Paimon is begging you Xiao!" "Fine! I'll do my best..." "Paimon knew she could rely on you!"

Aether POV:

After completing the commission I noticed Paimon disappeared so I decided to sit down under a tree just trying to get my mind of Lumine and... Xiao...

I awoke from my sleep finding beautiful amber eyes staring into my eyes."Oh. You're awake.", I heard a soft voice talking but couldn't identify who it was... "W-What?" "Paimon told me you have been acting weird lately and I wanted to make sure you're okay. I don't understand human emotions but I promised Paimon to at least try to make you feel better."

I slowly started to realize who was talking to me. It was Xiao! I didn't think I would ever see him again! "Aether? Are you okay?" "Oh yes I'm fine! I guess I was just a bit tired", I said nervously. "Paimon is waiting for you at the bottom of the mountain... Should I escort you there?" I looked at Xiao with a yes in my eyes but said no instead. >WHY DID I SAY NO<

At the bottom of the mountain I saw Paimon waiting for me. She looked at me nervously and I opened my arms welcoming her to a hug...

Xiao POV:

As I saw Aether hugging Paimon I wished it was me... I felt my face heating up a bit but ignored it. I wish someone would hug me and say sorry to me for what they put me through...

As I came back to Wangshu Inn I heard Verr Goldet talking to someone. That person sounded like... Aether! What was he doing here? I decided not to worry about it and just go to the roof balcony where I spend most my off duty time.
