P.O.V. – Safiya/Dragons
After dropping Cameron off at her house, Safiya returned to the sky with the Drake brothers. Marx broke out of the formation after a few minutes without so much a goodbye, heading toward his house in silence. Malcom, on the other hand, bid Safiya, Fitch, and Hatchet a lengthy farewell before flying off into the night. Last to leave was Hatchet, who mumbled a simple "Good night" as he descended toward his tiny shack of a house.
Now alone together for the first time in five hundred years, Safiya and Fitch flew quietly toward Dragonkeep, unsure of what to say. They landed on the fire escape outside the back window and stepped through it, emerging inside the dark apartment.
Safiya tentatively took a seat on the couch while Fitch turned on the lights. "You can sleep on my bed tonight," he told her, heading walking over and sitting down next to her. "I probably won't sleep much anyway."
"Are you scared, Ferrus?" Safiya asked, looking at him.
"No. I'm worried." Fitch leaned forward, resting his forearms on his legs. "And worry does not a heavy sleeper make."
Safiya smirked. "My rebirth cycle would say otherwise. I slept quite heavily, and I worried about your four every single day."
Fitch smiled, staring into Safiya's eyes. "And I worried about you," he murmured. "Although... perhaps not every day. The life of a Secret Peacekeeper kept me busy."
"Ha! Well, I appreciate the honesty," Safiya joked, nudging Fitch with a shoulder. The two of them chuckled for a moment; then Safiya said softly, "While we have this time, Ferrus... will you tell me about it?"
"About what?" Fitch asked, cocking his head.
"Your life," Safiya clarified. "While I was gone. Tell me what happened." She scooched closer to him, putting a hand on his leg. "Did you make friends? Did you have fun?" The Phoenix searched Fitch's gaze with an oddly-hopeful one of her own. "Did you fall in love?" she whispered.
Fitch scanned Safiya's eyes, his own filling with a flurry of emotions. He began to speak, but his voice broke almost immediately. Then he looked away from Safiya, putting a shaking hand over his mouth as tears glistened in his eyes.
Safiya's heart broke upon seeing that, and she moved her hand to Fitch's shoulder. "Ferrus," she said quietly, "tell me what happened."
Fitch didn't respond for a moment.
Then he took Safiya's hand off his shoulder and stood up, leading her to do the same. "Come with me," he told her in a quavering voice. "I have something to show you."
SAVED, Pt. IV (see "Epilogue I" of "L E G E N D S")
Safe Haven Cemetery was as quiet as you'd expect it to be at midnight. A light fog hung over the graves, shrouding the tombstones in earthbound clouds.
