Lucky was in his car smoking and he hummed lowly along to Drake as he sat there. He sat there thinking if he should go pay a visit to an old friend before he headed back home.
"Fuck it." He mumbled to himself.
He made his drive to the apartment complex since he was only 15 minutes away.
As he got closer his mind grew darker and darker. He wasn't angry his mind was just made up. He parked about a block and a half away and got out of the car careful about showing his face.
As he walked approaching the building he smiled a little seeing neighborhood kids laughing and playing in the fire hydrant. The sight triggered a sense of nostalgia that was brief as he got closer to the entrance seeing a bunch of corner boys just standing outside.
"Oh wassup Lucky" One greeted him.
He gave him a head nod and moved past the crowd walking with purpose as he walked into the lobby.
The piss fumes hit his nose instantly as he pressed the elevator button waiting.
A pair of crack heads were standing next to him just talking and he listened intently.
"I'm telling you man we could get top dollar for Brenda's Jordans man. She ain't using them anyways."
"Yeah you're right, but her mother got her those shoes and I don't think she'd forgive me."
"She's 15 she'll live."
Lucky's face twisted up as he stepped on the elevator since he grew up with parents like that. It didn't make his mood any better it actually pissed him off more.
He pressed the button to floor eleven and put his hands in his pockets. He wasn't too concerned about the cameras since they had been broken for years. He knew this because this was the same building he got his start at as a corner boy. He looked at his Rolex checking the time as he watched the numbers on the elevator slowly creep up to eleven.
A cautionary ding sound came once he reached his floor.
"In and out Luck."
He walked slowly to the door walking past loud reggae music playing slightly smiling. It was like taking candy from a baby the opportunity had presented itself like fate.
He knocked on the door loud enough for the tenant to hear.
"Who is it?"
"It's me."
The door opened in a matter of seconds with a gust of wind that fanned the smells of urine and alcohol that lingered the hallway.
Emerald stood there cutting her eyes at Lucky.
"Oh it's you."
He shrugged walking in looking around.
"Where's Tootie?"
"She's with my mother."
He nodded as he cleared his throat. He hated Emerald's family and never failed to make that fact known. He knew she'd assume that he came to spend money on her so he sat down on the couch.
"So, you had so much to text me. Let's talk." He looked over at her not having much to say.
"I don't appreciate how you treat me. I do a lot for you and you don't do nothing for me."
"Bitch you're lying. I stopped talking to bitches who I could have easily had next to me for you. I took you on a vacation, threw you a birthday party and bought clothes, shoes, and hella take out. I don't do that for any bitch."
"So what Lucky I could have any nigga I want to."
"So have them bitch why you keep bothering me. You don't do shit for me anyways. I could be having a hard ass day and you wouldn't even ask me what's wrong. Bitch I'm sick of you. You parade around like you a boss when bitch you ain't shit. You sleep with old niggas for money and sit in the house all day. You ain't worth nothing and you'll never have nothing bitch." He spat her with no regard.
A frustrated Emerald lunged at him as his words set in. The truth wasn't glamorous but she thought Lucky loved her.
He backhanded her like she was a nigga causing shock to enter her.
She started punching him anywhere the hits would land.
"Nigga I hate you."
Lucky's face grew dark and expressionless as he wrapped his hands around her throat.
A wave of fear washed over her as she looked at the terrifying site. His jaw was clenched tightly as he was squeezing her throat like a stress ball that he was trying to pop. As his hold got tighter and tighter she desperately pulled on his hair and clawed at him for him to let go.
They had been in this situation many of times but something in Lucky snapped this time. He didn't let go and started to smile as life poured out of his ex's body.
"Damn girl... blue looks so good on you."
He smirked kissing her face as she continued to gasp for air and flail. He held her steady as he watched her take her final breath.
"Like I said. You'll never be anything."
Her body went limp as he laid her down on the couch. He took out his burner phone thankful that he left his iPhone in the car.
"Aye beans. Get that clean up crew to the building we started at. I got something to get rid of in 11F."
He sat down looking at Emerald as he hung up and lit his blunt back up.
"Ya know you all lot more attractive when your mouth is shut." He chuckled to himself as he got high.
Now that his distraction was gone it was time to get to work.
