(Backstage) Cory can be seen pacing in the locker room worried. When it was a week away it was easy to deal with but now that's it's here he's feeling the pressure. If he leaves with the title, he has an opportunity to become the first black iwgp world champion and a dual champion. He was brought out of this when his phone began to ring.
(on the phone)
Cory: "Hello." unknown: "hey Cory it's me, Chris" Cory: "Woah Chris wassup" Chris: "I just was calling because I'm on my way to your locker room, I just wanted to make sure you were decent." Cory: "for sure I'm just thinking."
(Chris hangs up, while the door opens)
Chris: "for the love of god stop over-thinking already, you're on fire and I trained you too good for you to lose." Cory: "I know bu-" Chris: "shhhhhhhhh, in my 6 years of training you have never once talked back. you took instructions and learned things almost instantly. you are the closest I've seen to a prodigy since me." Cory: (chuckles) Chris: "do you remember that time you and trey were a team, what was it calle- oh yeah Raijin you guys were undefeated for a while, and then he left new japan and went to nxt." Cory: "we both know that's not how that happened." Chris: "that's not my point you survived your best friend leaving, and your two months away from facing Kenny omega for the world title. Cory you're destined to do great things and tonight is one of those things. You're gonna go out there and win. not for me, not for the fans, but because you're good enough. ok?" Cory: "yes sir, now go retain that intercontinental title."
