Flamepelt pricked his ears and opened his mouth to taste for any scents of prey. Picking up an unusual scent, The tabby tom tracked the trail which led him right to the Lakeclan border.
I shouldn't be here, Flamepelt thought. His clanmates were far from trusting him, and there would be problems with Wolfstar if any Forestclan cat found him straying near Lakeclan territory.
Many moons ago, Flamepelt found himself growing closer to Puddleshadow, a gray she-cat of Forestclan. Without knowing the consequences, The two foolish warriors met in secret, disobeying the warrior code, the one thing that held the three clans together, even in times of trouble and war.
Not long ago Puddleshadow revealed to the orange Lakeclan cat that she was expecting his kits. Torn between the one cat he loved with all his heart, and his birth clan, his kin, his home, Flamepelt left Lakeclan and joined Puddleshadow in Forestclan.
"Every breath I take will be for Forestclan. I am willing to join, Wolfstar, if you let me. Lakeclan is not the clan I once knew. Please, for the sake of Puddleshadow, forgive me. I shall always stay loyal to Forestclan," Were Flamepelt's exact words.
And yet, he couldn't help but wade beside the border, sniffing for any of his old friends. I'll follow the scent, He told himself. Lakeclan borders Forestclan, so their concerns may affect us too, right?
"Marshpaw! You mouse-brain! Here, watch me!" A sharp voice cut through the silence. Willowpaw!
"We shouldn't have come this far," Marshpaw answered. "This is much too close to Forestclan!"
The scent waftered over Flamepelt's nose again, faint but unmistakable. Fox!
"The great pine must be full of prey," Willowpaw insisted. Now Flamepelt could just catch a glimpse of her frost-colored pelt.
Now the stench of the fox was close, too close. The Lakeclan cats seemed to notice it too because both the apprentices stopped dead and started sniffing the air urgently. "FOX!" Marshpaw screeched just as the huge animal burst through the lowest branches of the great pine.
They were ready, though. Willowpaw leaped nimbly out of the way just as Marshpaw reared up and clawed its ears, yowling. The two apprentices were big, but no match for a full-grown fox, not when an elephant was lurking in the shadows, aiming the rifle at the young cats.
haha......
no.
Not when another one was stalking its way through the pine branches. Without thinking, Flamepelt launched himself across the border and onto the second fox, digging his front paws deep into its back and clawing his way up to slash at the creature's neck. Marshpaw yowled at his former clanmate, but Flamepelt didn't respond.
"Flamepelt! what are you doing here?"
Within a few moments, the foxes had run off, yelping in fear. Flamepelt wasn't badly hurt, though his clanmates were sure to notice his scratches.
Willowpaw rounded on the Forestclan warrior. "Flamepelt, what are you doing on our territory?" she said sternly.
"I just saved you guys from those foxes!" Flamepelt yelled in defense.
"We know," The she-cat growled with a hint of hostility in her voice. "And we thank you. But what are you still doing on our territory?"
Embarrassment showing in his blue eyes, he shuffled back onto the Forestclan side of the border. "Sorry," he meowed. "Even though we're in different clans, we are still kin. I care about both of you. The two of you couldn't have fought off two foxes on your own, could you?"
Willowpaw growled. "Stay out of our territory!" she whipped around and marched away, Marshpaw trailing after.
Flamepelt sighed. He waded into the shallows of the lake on the Forestclan side. It felt so different to be a Forestclan cat. Flamepelt rather liked fishing in the rushing river rather than waiting and stalking land prey.
I made a choice, He told himself firmly. There's no going back now.
Jet black paws suddenly splashed beside him and raked his eyes. The orange tom yowled with fury and turned around, trying to see through the blood washing into his eyes. The figure grabbed Flamepelt's scruff and pushed him under the lakewater, pressing his face down.
Water washed into Flamepelt's mouth. He coughed and thrashed underwater, trying to reach the surface to breathe. But he only engulfed more water, and his efforts were useless.
I'm going to die!
Oh no what do you think is going to happen
hehe
