Y/N jerked away from Mr. Hyde quickly, which made Hyde stop walking towards him. He stayed a few feet away from Y/N so as not to scare him.

"Why are you here?" Y/N asked the first question on his mind as his voice waivered.

He knew Hyde could sense his fear. 'Why isn't he attacking me?', he thought.

"You know who I am..." Hyde said it more to himself than to Y/N. His voice sounded different to the last time they talked, but maybe because he had been drunk.

"You're a-" Y/N mustered the courage to finish his sentence. "A murderer." And he took another step away from Hyde.

This seemed to switch something in Mr. Hyde. "Please let me explain. This is not what you think it is", he said with a tone of despair.

Y/N was surprised but he didn't let his guard down.

"What is there to explain? And- and why me? Why are you doing this?"

Hyde took a deep breath. "Because, Y/LN, you are the only friend I have. You're the only person who has ever truly helped me."

Was he talking about the bar fight? Still, this was absurd.

"Trust me, we are not friends. I wouldn't befriend a murderer."

Hyde's face twisted with anxiety. "No, it wasn't me", he said quickly.

For a moment, Y/N fell silent and felt some hope. "You mean you didn't kill Mr. Carew?"

Hyde looked down painfully. "I-I didn't want to. I tried to stop it. But there is something else going on. Something you don't know, something the whole of London doesn't know."

Y/N was confused by his confession- was Hyde some sort of hitman?

Two shadows passed by Hyde and Y/N in the dark street. The two figures looked at them and started whispering to each other. Hyde pulled his scarf further up his face.

Y/N realized that this was a dangerous place to be. He looked to Hyde.

For some reason or another, Hyde's words had struck a cord with him. They had seemed quite genuine. 'If Hyde is being forced into something, the very least I could do is to hear him out right?', Y/N thought.

"I can give you a chance to explain, Hyde. But not here. Come, follow me. Keep your head down."

Hyde obeyed his instructions and followed him into the night without a word.
