The dawn light creeped in over the guys makeshift camp. It's warm rays slowly etched onto the ground. A cool breeze swept over them, rattling the branches which they slept under.
Faun awoke slowly, she slowly opened her eyes and yawned widely. She stood up before wobbling some. Right, still a dog.. She shook out her fur and started to clean herself, licking her shoulders before starting to groom her head. After finishing she glanced around and saw that the other two men where sleeping. Watching Hosea snore softly and the slow rise of his chest made her feel calm. These were nice people, and she wanted to go with them, but the tricky situation of her... form, would be a challenge to change in and out of.
Her stomach growling interrupted her thoughts and she swiped her tongue over her muzzle. Standing she started sniffing the air for food nearby. Picking up on the scent of a rat she turned away from the camp and crept through the thicket.
She eventually found the creature, hunched over and eating what was foraged from the forest floor. She silently crept up to the rodent and lunged forward. She snapped her jaws onto the rat and heard a crunch, killing it instantly.
She picked up her prize and carried it back to camp, it securely in her jaws. As she trotted back Charles had began stirring and woke up. He sat up slightly and yawned, stretching himself awake. He watched as Faun returned with her meal in her jaws and laughed quietly.
"Busy already this morning i see"
Faun looked at him and nodded, catching Charles by surprise. She sat down by Hosea and started to eat the rat. After she was done she picked up the remains of the carcass and pushed it under the mulberry bush, scraping dirt over it to bury the corpse.
At this time Hosea began to awake and Charles started to pack his sleeping bag into his horse, who was on the outside of the camp.
"Good morning Charles, and good morning to you too" he stood up and ruffled the hair of Faun, where she flicked her ears at him.
The men silently started to pack up and extinguish the fire that had coals still smoldering. As they finally got everything together Hosea and Charles saddled their horses, and Hosea whistled for Faun.
Prancing over she followed behind the men, as they made their way out of the forest and onto the main road. The dirt road was damp and making her paws wet, but the coolness of the earth felt nice. The two gentlemen talked amongst themselves as they traveled, discussing the weather or what schemes they would pull next. Faun just steadily kept her pace behind them listening to their conversation.
"Do you think it was right of us to rob that train up north?"
"Personally i do not," Hosea said annoyingly, "I don't know what came over the man's head but it wasn't good, having us make trouble as soon as we arrived."
"Hmm"
Faun widened her eyes some, apparently they were the men she heard the folks at Valentine talk about. She was traveling with the outlaws that robbed down south and fled up north. Oh no.. What the hell am i going to do now!? They can't find out who i am! They may hurt me or kill me or-
Her scramble of thoughts was interrupted by Charles, "What should we name her? I was thinking something.. pretty"
"Hmm, pretty you say? How about Annie?"
"No, that's too common.. what about Jill?"
"Oh but THATS not common" Hosea laughed loudly, and shook his head in amusement.
"Yeah yeah, what, do YOU have anything better?"
"As of a matter of fact i do! how about Angie?"
"That's.. actually not that bad" Charles stated, surprised he thought of that that quickly.
