When I wake up the next morning, I go straight to the gym to burn off steam from the thought of having to entertain all our enemies tomorrow.
But when I enter the gym, I already see that it's half full of people already training. People who have been here since 6am seeing as that's when we're supposed to be up for mafia work, but I always preferred waking up around 10 but I managed to wake up at 9 seeing as I was also trying to be as involved as possible with our mafia.
I walk over to a bench near the punching bags and start to wrap my hands before starting.
I hear footsteps approach and then see Thomas looking straight at me with a determined look on his face. He's one of our best assassins and was my main teacher for lessons and now I'm just as good as him if not better.
'How was your mission yesterday with the Russians? Did you get any more information that could help?' He asks
I look up at him. At his grey blue eyes that seem foggy with his age and his light brown hair that is slicked back with gel. I can see the tattoo that starts at the side of the neck that coils around to the back and becomes a snake. He's not unattractive but he just isn't my type. And plus he's like a cousin to me than anything else.
'Not really I think we might just go back to their hideout where we found them the first time to just check if they have all cleared out yet' I say
Thomas sighs and says 'we already did a second check at seven this morning but there was nothing we could find. Why do you think you could find anything else'
'Because I wasn't there this morning and I do believe I can track better than you now so I would like to see for myself' I say
'Fine. Just be careful you know how bad it would get if you went missing too'
'Don't talk about that. Ever.' I snarl at him
'Okay I'm just saying. Also don't forget the ball tomorrow evening everyone is supposed to be there' he says
'Yeah, yeah. Okay' I say trying to step around him to start training, but he puts his hand on my shoulder stopping me and I look at him.
'You must be there; you know how pissed your father will be if you're not. And plus, I'll be there you can always just stay with me' he says with a grin at the end making it clear what he meant
'Do you really think I would go on a date with you? To a ball that everyone we know will be there, and see?' To his credit his grin doesn't falter, and I scoff at him.
'Thomas, I've told you this before, but I see more as a cousin than anything else so please stop asking to take me on dates, especially somewhere everyone important to or mafia and lives will be because it will send the wrong impression of who you are to me'
This time his grin does disappear, and it's replaced with a scowl 'I'm giving you an option right now. I suggest you start taking it before I go to your father because you know what he will do if you wait around too long'
I narrow my eyes at him and then shrug off his hand and make my way to the punching bag thinking about how now I'm even more angry and need this more.
I think my father was content with me finding whoever I wanted but after mom disappeared and then when I turned 16, he gave me a deadline to find someone. And then a deadline after that and a deadline after that. Now I'm 20 and it's clear how much patience has abandoned him in the 4 years. I know that he's given me this extra year because of what happened a year ago, but he still knows that if I was to never marry how weak I would look as being the only women to become the head of a mafia alone (which is one of the main reasons I never want to marry). If I wait any longer, he will pick a husband for me and I will have no say in the matter.
