Dan

For the whole day, I felt like I was walking on air. Dena and I had gone around London, before going to a quiet part of the park only Dena knew. The only times I remembered about yesterday were where I realised that I wasn't thinking about yesterday. We chatted about YouTube, university, family, past relationships.

"You're the first." Dena told me, smiling.

"What, really?" I asked, perplexed.

"Well, I don't really count all the idiots I dated before." She said, leaning against me. I flushed.

"So I'm not, uh, an idiot?" Very smooth, very articulate, Daniel.

"Nah, you're alright." She laughed, grinning at me, then quickly diving in for a kiss.

"What about you?" She asked me after a few moments. "Any pretty girls I ought to be jealous of?" She questioned jokingly, but looking just a tiny bit worried.

"Well there was the goth, the cheerleader, the teacher." Dena's eyes widened at that last one. "Joking!" I smiled at her. "But no, haven't really liked anyone for a long time."

Apart from Ph-Dena. Wait- what? Why had my mind first thought of Phil? I turned slightly red, feeling like she could read my mind. I was just tired. It was just me being concerned for him, my brain had gotten confused, said the questioningly accurate psychologist side of me.

But yeah, after spending some more time in the park and then going to lunch in a fancy (and expensive) restaurant, we wandered back to her house. As we walked past my flat, I glanced up at our window, seeing if I could see Phil anywhere.

"Oh yes, did you get your laptop charger in the end?" Dena asked me.

"Ugh, yeah." I grimaced at the memory. She looked at me, waiting for me to elaborate.

"Phil." I said, not trusting myself to say anything else. But still, she waited.

"We had another fight. I just, I don't know what's up with him." I tried to smile, but had to look away.

"Another one?" She said, slightly rolling her eyes. "Probably him just being a douche again." She grinned at me, trying to cheer me up, but I was shocked.

I pulled away from her slightly. "Phil's not a douche." I said to her quietly. Why would she say that? Didn't she know how important Phil was to me? Her eyes turned cold for a second, but it was gone so quickly I'm almost sure I imagined it.

"Come on, that's not what I meant." She said, reaching to grab my hand again, but I pulled away. I liked Dena, but I wasn't going to stand here while she openly insulted my best friend.

"So what did you mean?" I asked her coolly. She looked slightly taken aback at me standing up for him. That's one thing about me- I'm loyal. I know what it feels like to have 'friends' talk about you behind your back.

"Well, I was just agreeing with you." She answered, looking slightly peeved.

"I never said Phil was a douche, I just said we aren't seeing eye to eye at the moment."

"Alright then, fine." She said, but then under her breath, so quietly I almost didn't hear her, "Though not from what I've heard..."

I couldn't believe this- where was this cold, bitchy side of Dena coming from? I did not like this one bit.

"Sorry, what?" I said loudly, turning around to face her. "Why are you being so horrible about Phil?" I questioned her, slightly angrily.

"Hey, calm down." She said quietly, pulling me in a bit and looking around, scared to make a scene. I couldn't believe her- why was she blaming this on me now? " I just mean, he hasn't been a great friend in the past, especially considering everything you've done for him-" She started explaining.
