"Using magic against another student like that is unacceptable!" The headmistress was trying to intimidate me, but in truth it wasn't really working, as spoiled as it seemed, I knew I couldn't be kicked out of the academy for the sole fact that my family partially owned it, I knew I would be punished and there was no way to get out of it, now I just had to hear what the punishment was and get to work, there really was no point for her to lecture me.
"I wasn't the first to use it, she slapped me and while my magic reacted to my anger, it didn't hurt anyone, it was only when she tried to burn me, multiple times I might add that I defended myself." I wasn't sure why the headmistress was so angry at me, I understood that I damaged school property, but I wasn't the one who started it, I merely finished it.
"She is in the medical wing, and you are unharmed!" I raise an eyebrow at her, not at all impressed by her reasoning, during the choosing ceremony everyone seemed to respect her, but I couldn't see at all why she was deserving this respect, she certainly didn't have mine.
"So, you're saying if I had just stood there and let her burn me instead of defending myself, I wouldn't be in trouble? Let alone the fact that it isn't my fault that she attacked me first and misjudged which one of us was stronger. Please tell me that you aren't thinking that you can give me a more severe punishment than the one you will give her, she is the one who attacked me first." Headmistress Haven's face was turning red in anger, but I was completely calm, I didn't understand why she was so upset, the situation wasn't the best sure, but surely they had seen worse before, I couldn't understand why she didn't seem better at dealing with stressful situations.
"You damaged school property! Choked a student and maimed another! When your grandmother hears about this!" I cocked my head to look at her with intrigue, very curious as to what she would say next, but she seemed to think that threatening to tell my grandmother would frighten me and when I showed no reaction, she trailed off.
"Please, do tell my grandmother about this incident. I assure you, she will not be taking your side in this situation, I am not the one at fault for this situation, Abigail is, it doesn't matter who is injured in the end, she offended me by slapping me and calling me horrible names, and then tried to disfigure me, she started it, I merely finished it. I will pay for any and all damages done to the dining hall, but as to the other allegations against me, that student I choked, wrapped vines around my ankles and made them have thorns that dug deep into my skin, holding me still for her friend to attack me, for their actions alone, I could have done much worse. I have burns on my hands from holding Abigail back from attack me, the marks of Amalia's attack on my legs, even the bruise from Abigail slapping me. Abigail may be more severely injured, but I assure you I did not come out of this unscathed, and if I was feeling petty, given the fact that my family owns this academy, I could demand for both of their expulsions from this school." The headmistress was staring at me warily, likely realizing that I would not be severely punished for something that wasn't my fault, I would accept responsibility for what was my fault and that was it, if she tried to make Amalia and Abigail out to be the victims it would not go well for her.
"What exactly do you expect to happen to the two of them then, Miss Valdis." The fact that her voice was much more restrained, and she was calling me by my last name, was evidence to the fact that she knew I was not the one in the wrong here, and she also didn't have the power to change that.
"I will not demand their expulsions if that is what you're asking, but I expect an apology from the both of them, as well as for them to receive an adequate punishment for attacking another student unprovoked." I wonder how this would have gone if Abigail was here and I was in the medical wing for attacking her, I imagine I still wouldn't have been perceived as the victim, she seemed to have something against either my chosen element or the power my family had over the school she governed.
