"...Mmph... uh... huh...?" I opened my eyes and stared at the ceiling for a while.
'Another day... more suffering,' I thought to myself, ready to endure more beatings from my "parents" as I pushed myself to sit up.
However, as I sat up, I felt a small amount of pain on the right side of my torso, my right arm, and my left leg respectively, causing me to groan and lay back down on the futon. As I lay back down on my futon, I felt warm and comfortable there, which was a feeling that I hadn't felt in a long time. In fact, I felt... safe? Hold on... this couldn't be right...
'Huh...? This futon...'
I noticed that the futon had a blanket over it, which wasn't present on the futon in my old "room"...I sat up again, ignoring the pain to get a better view of the room I was in.
My eyes went wide as I realised that I was in a room that I didn't recognise.
The walls were rather old, the wood slightly rotten.
There was a cracked window to my right, and although it was cracked and a bit dirty, you were still able to see through it.
The rest of the room was pretty empty all things considered."W-What...?" I uttered out beneath my breath. I was confused, and even a little scared. I wasn't sure what had happened yesterday.
"Ugh... wh-what... happened yesterday... huh?"
I heard the door to the room open, and I felt a massive sense of curiosity and fear, due to not knowing who could be entering the room, and what reason they had for taking me here."Hm? Ah, you're awake. That explains all the noise." Said a mature-looking woman as she walked into the room.
The woman had long green hair and green eyes. She wore a blue cap with what looked like some sort of yellow sun on it, a vest with a yellow ribbon, and a dress underneath her vest with three white moon, star and sun symbols on it.
But the most surprising thing about her was that she had no legs. Instead, she floated whilst an odd 'tail' made of a white smoke-like substance protruded from beneath her dress. My eyes became as wide as saucers and my heart rate increased because of this, as I had never seen anything like it before.
I knew that whoever, or whatever I was talking to wasn't human. If anything, it could've been a Youkai!
"W-Who are--" I was cut off by the woman."Silence, child. You're injured, so you should take some time to rest and regain your strength." Said the woman again, walking... er... floating towards me.
She crouched down, and we met eye to eye.
The woman had an odd aura around her as if she had lived for a very long time, and had seen and done many things.I wasn't sure how to feel.
"I can tell that you're feeling uneasy, child. But don't worry. I'm not someone who generally likes to harm defenceless children." The woman reassured.
I closed my eyes and let out a sigh of relief. Whilst I was still a bit sceptical about the woman, at least I knew that she probably wouldn't hurt me.
I opened my eyes and looked at her again."...To answer the question you were likely about to ask me, child," The woman began, placing a hand on her chest.
"...I am Mima. As you supposedly already know from my 'tail', I am not a human. But rather... a soul." The woman I now knew as Mima introduced herself."A... soul...?" I said quietly.
Mima's bright green eyes turned their gaze to the side for a second. I wasn't sure how to explain it, but the look in her eyes seemed... almost a little sad? Unsure, even?
"Yes. A soul."
"I-I see..." I said in awe.
"Oh, and just to make sure, child, do you remember what happened to you yesterday... last night, rather?" Mima queried me.
