I woke up, the sun shining on my face.
I sat up and looked around my cold, colourless room. It was almost empty like usual, the only thing in my room was me, a window which you could barely even see through, and my worn-out, cold futon. Even if the sunshine was shining down on me, I was still freezing.Oh, I almost forgot to introduce myself. My name is Y/N L/N. I'm a 13 year old boy living with my... "family"... (I really hate calling them that...) in the Human Village in Gensokyo, a land separated from what we call the Outside World by the Great Hakurei Barrier.
But let's push the introductions away for a bit.I sighed and barely managed to stand up. I walked over to the door of my room, opened it, and walked through to the main house.
It was eerily quiet...
'My parents are still asleep...' I thought to myself.
'I should probably make breakfast before they wake up.' It was then I walked over to the kitchen and began preparing today's breakfast - Miso Soup.As I was cooking up breakfast, my mind turned to books. Books were my only escape from reality, and many of them consisted of powerful magicians taking on great youkai.
I looked up to those I read about in those books, and I one day wanted to be just like them and resolve incidents, meet new people and youkai, and become someone others could look up to...My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of my parents' bedroom door opening. It was quite loud, so I could hear it, even in the kitchen.
'I should probably finish this quickly. Looks done anyways.' I thought to myself as I poured the Miso Soup into two bowls. I then put a spoon in each bowl and walked over to the door to the living room and opened it. My father and my mother were both sitting at the kotatsu, waiting for their food.
My mother is the first to turn her head to me, as my father was busy reading the Bunbunmaru Newspaper.
"Well, you're up early for a change." She says.
"Y-Yeah..." I replied, wanting to look down but I couldn't, as breaking eye-contact with my parents usually resulted in yelling or getting hit.
My mother is a woman in her early 30's, though at first glance you'd mistake her to be in her mid 20's.
She has H/C hair, which I share, and E/C eyes, which I also share.
My father on the other hand, was just a year older than my mother, but he was rather chubby and hairy. Honestly, I don't understand how anybody could fall in love with someone who looked like that.My mother then spoke up again.
"What the fuck are you doing, standing there? Go get us the Miso Soup, I can smell it from here."
I nodded. "Yes, mother..."
I walked over to the kitchen and picked up the two bowls. I realised that I should've put the bowls on a tray, but it was too late now I suppose... my fingers were burning due to the heat from beneath the bowls.
I walked over to my parents' kotatsu and placed my mother's bowl down first.
As I was placing my father's bowl down, I tripped, spilling some hot Miso Soup on him, though it was mostly blocked by his Bunbunmaru Newspaper.I went wide eyed, knowing what would happen next.
"YOU PIECE OF SHIT!" My father yelled, grabbing me by the neck and pinning me on the wall.
I tried to break free, but he just tightened his grip, strangling me.
As I desperately tried gasping for air, I glanced over to my mother. She just looked at me with an angry expression on her face.
"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE PLAYING AT, POURING BOILING HOT SOUP ALL OVER ME!?"
I tried to speak, but couldn't. Then, he threw me to the ground, and picked me up by my shirt.
"I swear, I'm going to teach you a lesson you'll never forget..." My father then carried me into my room, and the beating truly began.
