The pirate's treasure (male x female mermaid reader)

Come on it will be fun!

"Rise and shine dear sis!" a voice rang through my ears. Followed by the sheets covering my body being ripped away from me. "Come ooon! It's your birthday..." your brothers voice whined. I simply ignored his whole existence.

I could hear his tale starting to move through the water. The sound moving from beside my bed to the door of my room.

I opened my eyes and looked at the sun (merfolk know the time by looking at the position of the sun or moon). Wow Nate really wanted to wake me up at 07:45 in the morning on my birthday. I sighed at my annoying brother.

"Alsoo, you have to go to school and you overslept bye!" Nate yelled from the hallway.

I shot up with eyes wide. I had school at 08:15 and had to swim for 15 minutes to get there. "NATE!!! I'm going to kill you!" I screamed.

I rushed to do everything I usually did within an hour within 15 minutes. All my 4 brothers did was laugh at me, panicking and rushing through the house.

Before I left the house, I yelled at them. "I HATE ALL OF YOU!" and slammed the door shut behind me.

-Time skip-

"You look like you've just seen hell." Coral said. "Thanks." I said sarcastic and completely out of breath. "Y/N it's your birthday! You can't look like this on your birthday." Pearl said while immediately grabbing a brush out of her bag. She grabbed me by the arm and turned my around. She started aggressively brushing my hair with the brush. "Pearl is right. Today is YOUR big day. So, pull it together, because you cannot do our ritual like this." Coral said.

"Ritual?" I questioned, Pearl still fiddling with my hair. "Done and yes a ritual. You are not going to school today. Because you're coming with us." Pearl said turning me back around to face my friends.

"May I ask what this ritual exactly means?" I asked looking at them like they were crazy. "That's a surprise." Pearl said with her perfect smile and puppy eyes.

Even though Pearl is 18 she still looks and acts like she is a 16-year-old cute, happy puppy. While Coral on the other hand looks and acts like a beautiful, strong-willed grown up.

"Just follow us." Coral said.

-Time skip-

We had been swimming for an hour. They had blindfolded me at the beginning of this long journey. And now we finally stopped.

They gently removed the blindfold. I looked around and my eyes immediately got big. I stared daggers at Pearl and Coral. "Why the hell did you bring me here! We are way too close to the border. There is literally only 150 meters of water in this part of the ocean!" I yelled.

"Told you she'd freak out." Pearl whispered to Coral. "Okay so don't freak out-" Coral started. "It's too late for that!" I interrupted her. "Sorry... The ritual is breathing air. We are here to go up and breath air." she said.

This time not only Í stared at her completely surprised, Pearl stared with me. "Wait, you said we would only go far enough to see the sky. Because it's high season!" Pearl said looking at Coral with a confused and frowned face. I simply stared at both.

"I said that if it was too dangerous, we would do that. But no merman has been caught yesterday. And they said there were no ships. So, it's safe to go. And before you go rambling about the fact that it is illegal and all that stuff. Everyone does it when they turn 18." Coral stated bluntly.

"I don't know Coral..." I said looking up. "Come on it will be fun! And as soon as something goes wrong, we'll be gone in just a few seconds." she said with a smile. "Fine." I said.

Both Pearl and Coral started smiling and started swimming up and I followed. Not long after, we reached the border between the water and air.

Both Pearl and Coral waved for me to go up. I took a deep breath and swam up. My skin was met with a very cold, heavy feeling. My lungs filled with air which was way purer than usual. Causing me to start coughing loudly.

"Don't worry you'll get used to it any moment now." Pearl said gently rubbing my back.

After a few more coughs I finally stopped. I looked around and stared at the beautiful scene in front of my eyes. "Wow, this is really beautiful." I gasped. Pearl smiled at me and Coral rolled her eyes and twirled me around. There I was swimming face to face with a beautiful island.

"What is this." I said in awe. "Mermaid island. The only place of land on earth where mermaids are allowed to go." Pearl said. "What do you mean mermaids aren't allowed to go anywhere near land." I said frowning. "Well, what they don't tell is that it is better for a mermaid to be used to air and land. For when we might need to. So, when a mermaid turns 18, the mermaid must spend a few days in mermaid lagoon, to get used to the different environment." Coral explained.

I nodded my head and started swimming towards the island until I reached the lagoon. There was a big rock in the middle and there was a waterfall right next to it. I placed myself on the rock exhausted from all the swimming. "I think I'm going to lay down for a while." I said and with that, I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
