"Yeah Shaylee, I'm just about to leave," I said. "Well I'm at the front door right now," I answered. "No shit, it's Lola's right?" I asked. I opened the door to find the most unexpected person at my house. "I'll call you back," I told Shaylee.

I hung up the phone and turned towards the woman. "What are you doing here Mom?" I asked. "I just came to see you and your dad and your brother," she explained like it was normal. "Well you don't get to leave and then come back when you want to,"I scoffed. How dare you!

"I just want to see my daughter again," she said. "I'm not your daughter anymore," I spat, "and I don't think I ever was." I burst out the door and ran to where I was meeting Shaylee.

"She just showed up like it was normal," I said. "Did she even look sorry?" Shaylee asked. "No," I muttered, "not that it matters." If she were truly sorry, she wouldn't have left.

"Well this is a sign right?" Shaylee asked, "she wants to know you again." I roll my eyes. "Why are you so into this?" I asked her. "Because I don't have it," she said after a beat of silence. Realization flashed in my eyes. "I don't have that perfect family full of love and support, but you could, and you deserve it," she said. I shook my head, "So do you." She laughed at me, "In what life?" She asked. "This one, maybe," I told her. "Dream on," she scoffed.

We walked through the streets talking. "So what about you?" I asked. "Can we just not talk about me?" She asked, "I'm trying to ignore my problems, not face them." Her life really was shitty. She doesn't deserve any of it. The worst part is she doesn't even know why.

"Ooh look, boas!" Shaylee squealed. "Boas?" I asked raising an eyebrow. "Purple boas," she added like it made a huge difference. I choked back a laugh as she flung one around her neck. This is why she's my best friend.

"You know how when we're little we believe all this stupid stuff about life?" I asked as Shaylee and I walk to my house. "You mean like fairies, dragons, and unicorns?" She asked. "And the flying monkeys," I added. "Ewww no!" Shaylee laughed. Shaylee used have nightmares about flying monkeys.

"That was funny," I laughed. "It was not!" She glared, "besides, it's only because Tom told me they'd rip my hair out and force me to eat it." I nodded, "And then you choked him with a purple boa," I remembered, "Wait! Is that why you're so obsessed with those things?!" Shaylee gasped, "It's not an obsession, it's a way of life."

"It's an obsession when you dress like one for costume day," I argued back. "My best costume yet," she adds. "Admit your obsession so we can cure you," I ordered. "Who's we?" She smirked. "Me bitch!" I shout. "That's one person you wanker!" She shouted back.

"Shut up, you lousy twats!" A man shouted from his flat as we passed a building. Shaylee and I could barely contain our giggles as we looked up at him. "I said shut up!" He yelled again. We giggled again, even louder. It wasn't on purpose. Our laughter turned into full on shrieking when the old geezer started throwing mushrooms at us. Like actual mushrooms!

We sprinted down the alley in a burst of laughter only to fall into a pile on the grass. "I...can't...breathe," I wheezed. "I think I'm gonna faint," Shaylee agreed rolling off of my stomach. "I wonder what would've happened if we threw them back at him," I said. "He probably would've started throwing knives," Shaylee said. "Then I'd laugh even harder," I admit.

"Now do you want flying monkeys or mushrooms?" I asked. "Technically the mushrooms were falling, not flying," Shaylee points out. "And technically, that's not the point," I snarked. "Fine, Mushrooms," she said. I shook my head, "Monkeys, I wanna ride one," I said standing up.

"Good luck with that, I'll film from the safety of the ground," she said. "You know global warming is a thing, right?" I asked. "Oh fuck off!" She shouted stopping at the steps.

"You know, you're always welcome to stay over," I said. "I'll just go home," she said. "It's ten o'clock," I told her. "I'll slip in through my window," she said. "They're boarded up," I remind her. "Well I'll get in somehow," she said. I sighed, "You're sure?" I asked. "Yes," she said. "Well, I'll see you in school then," I told her. She nodded, "Bye Arya," she said. I waved before going inside. I should've forced her to come inside.
