~August~

Me and Serena were just chillin' eating some ice cream when I remembered to call Bethany.

I looked down the road and saw her house.

Maybe I should drop by instead...

Nah.

It rang five times and I was about to hang up when she answered.

"Hey, B. Look I'm-" I rubbed the back of my neck.

"Bethany..."A dude moaned.

I glanced down at the phone.

I heard kissing noises and another moan.

"Derek..."

That was Bethany.

Damn.

That really hurt a nigga.

I guess that nigga Derek was right.

Seemed to me like she was in a good place right then.

"Daddy what's wrong?" Serena asked, strawberry ice cream on her chin and hands.

I cleaned her up and plastered on a smile.

"Nun, babyeh. Finish your ice cream."

She stared at me for a while then went back to her ice cream.

"Okay daddy."

I checked at my phone and noticed I was still on the phone with Bethany.

I started to hang up but I heard something that made my hand freeze in place.

"You love him don't you?" A chuckle.

"Whaa? Who?" Bethany said. "Derek, no. I-"

"It's cool." I didn't hear the rest but I did catch the last part. "You can't help who you love right?"

Who does Bethany love?

Me?

Nah, she probably had another nigga or sum.

But she never mentioned...

Duh.

She wouldn't tell me about her boyfriend.

I finally hung up the phone with a deep sigh.

I don't know how to feel.

I mean we wasn't together.

I guess I just hoped...

I stood up quickly, startling Serena.

I needed to talk to her right then.

"Ight. You done?" She shook her head."Good let's go."

"But daddy-" I raised an eyebrow.

She smiled innocently.

"Yes sir."

I grabbed her hand and jogged down the street with Serena beside me.

I stood on her doorstep and looked down at Serena.

"Whose house is this?" She scrunched her eyebrows together then smirked, "Your girlfriend?"

"Mind ya business, lil girl." I chuckled.

I started to knock but the door swung open and Derek walks out.

He stopped when he saw me.

"Perfect timing." He gave a small smile and looked at Serena. "Cute kid. Bethany knows?"
