"Why look at what we have here,"

Says Kurtis as he opens the door to the bookstore for me

Says Kurtis as he opens the door to the bookstore for me. I'm carrying a bag of Thai food in one hand with drinks in the other. "Hey Kurt," I say in an already annoyed tone.  He's wearing a gray North face jacket with baggy jeans and his shiny blonde hair sits on top of his head with a strand in front of his face. I see an old lady wearing a big coat with rainboots on, walking a long the fiction section.

I try to walk pass Kurt when he says, "Ooooh, is that Thai I smell? Why thank you!" he says attempting to take the bag out of my hand.

"Actually....." I say grabbing the bag. "It's for my brother."  Kurtis jokingly acts offended. "How dare you? You know what," he says walking back behind the cashier. "No hard feelings. I'll just let you guys eat lunch without me."

I half smile and walk through the door that read "Manager's only."

"I'll just be over here! Doing my job!"

I knock lightly on the open door before walking in. Liam glances over before saying "Come in."

"Hey,"  I say as I walk in and sit the bag on the only table that's not full of books and tools. "Did you get my text?" Liam continues working on binding books. "No. My hands have been full all morning Lill's, sorry," he says. "Oh, that's alright. I kind of  figured since you and Kurtis have been getting a lot of shipping's recently." Liam stands and washes his hands in the small tainted sink that's sitting in the corner of the room. "Yeah. It's been crazy here. And to be honest, we hardly ever get any customers anymore, so I don't know why we've been getting a lot of books shipped.  He dries his hands off on the rag that hangs out of his pocket.

Anyway, I brought Chicken fried rice. You're favorite. "Ahhh, I knew I smelled chicken, he says as he sits down next to me. I smile. "Yeah. I know we hardly ever get to see each other because I've been extremely busy with the diner and everything. It's also been super crazy over there too," I say as I hand him a fork. "Ah, you're fine."

We ate and chatted about things like how we should fly back to Italy to see our parents since they've been calling us non stop. The last time we flew to Italy to see them was last summer. Time has passed and I miss them lots.

I ended up staying at the bookstore for 2 hours until I get a call. I slip out my phone from my back pocket to see a funny picture of Oliver that night when we went to a party. He has whip cream all over his face and he's smiling really hard at the camera.

"Hey, what's up?" I say when I click the green button. "Nothing, just wanted to see whatcha doin," he says. I can hear the tv playing in the background. "Oh, I'm at the bookstore with Liam." I put the phone on speaker so he can hear. "What's up," says Liam in a feathery tone.

"What's up man, sorry we haven't got the chance to talk you know, I've just been learning how to be a father and everything."

"Oh, no bro it's alright. I'm sure you're getting the hang of it. I'm happy for you," Liam says.
