I remember waking abruptly from a deep sleep. I looked down at my alarm clock and saw that it was not on.
"Damn," I muttered.
I grabbed my watch and looked at the time. The watch read 10 O'clock.
"Shit. I'm late," I said to myself.
I went to flick on the light switch only to discover that the power was out. I quickly threw on some clothes and I went out the door. The dark hallway of the apartment had a creepy tone to it. I made my way down the hallway and I heard nothing. There was no sound whatsoever. I opened the door to the stairway, and quickly walked down two flights of stairs to get to the main lobby. When I opened the door to the lobby, I heard a strange noise coming from behind me. I turned around, but I didn't see anything. I shrugged it off and continued on towards the exit. The lobby was unpopulated, so I calmly walked towards the exit. Outside, the streets were filled with cars packed with bags and people. On the sidewalk, I stopped a man walking by and asked him what was going on. The man responded,
"They're all evacuating. The mayor issued a state of emergency due to an unknown virus outbreak."
The man then continued on his way.
"Evacuation?" I asked myself.
I then decided to turn back to my apartment to figure out what was going on. I went back to the building and raced towards the stairway. Standing in front of the door was a man with blood red eyes. The man sprinted towards me with tremendous speed, and he nearly tackled me. Luckily, I was able to dodge him and run up the stairs. I went into my room, and I grabbed my pistol and some ammunition. I turned to walk out the door when I heard an explosion come from outside. I raced out the door to see what had happened. The sprinting man was awaiting my arrival in the lobby. I aim my gun at his head and without thinking, I pulled the trigger. The man's body dropped to the floor with a thud. I sprinted out the door to the building and saw what the explosion was. It was a bombing. The military must have initiated bombing runs to wipe out infected individuals. To my left, I heard gunshots. Coming from what appeared to be an abandoned coffee shop, I approached cautiously to see what was going on. On the floor, I saw two police officers. One was on top of the other. The one officer appeared to be infected and was pinning the other to the ground. I aimed my gun at the infected officer and shot him in the head. My experience hunting down south improved my marksmanship to a great extent.
"Let's go. This world is going to shit, "I said.
A look of both fright and confusion appeared on the man's face.
"My name's Daniel. Daniel Johnson."
"My name... My name is Peter Davis..." The man said quietly.
"Well Peter, it looks like you and I have some surviving to do."
