"Lily, are you ready!?" Leo yelled from downstairs as I struggled to button my white denim tank top.
"Yeah! Hold up!" I yelled back and pulled my jean shorts up.
Today we were going to the booth for recording and, as always, I'm not ready yet.
I stomped my feet into black and acid pink Dr. Martens and ran a hand through my curls. I couldn't find the right eyeshadow so I decided just to use a light pink NARS lip gloss then slapped on an almost straw Fedora. I traded my old phone case for one that Leo got me and approved my appearance in the mirror. I nodded, bolting out the door.
"Coming!"
_____
"Okay. Practice number five or twenty-three?" Leo lifted a finger off the mic button as I cupped one side of the black headphones to my ear.
"Big range there. Uh, twenty-three first. I'll speed it up; then number five for tune." I decided and pulled the covered mic closer to me as I shifted my weight.
He nodded and flipped some keys on the switch board as my brothers watched in awe of normality in the studio.
The familiar tune flowed through the headphones and I prepped for the odd rap.
"Rum pa pa pum, rum pa pum pum pum pum.
Yeah I'm on the drum, yeah I'm on the snare drum.
Yeah I'm on the beat cause the beat goes dumb.
And I only spit heat cause I'm playin' for the Son.
Playin' for the King, playin for the Title,
I'm surprised you didn't hear this in the Bible.
I'm so tight, I might go psycho . . . ""Great! Eight and Nine." Leo worked on the board.
"Is it bad that I have no idea what the twelve-year-olds are talking about?" Niall's muffled voice was barely audible.
"Dude! It's preschool!" I yelled through the mic and Harry laughed.
"This isn't professional, it's a system I came up with for James. Okay, boys, shut-up, now!" Leo yelled, his eyes glued to the complicated board.
They nodded as my favorite song blasted through my head and I flicked my hat off, pulling the black headphones completely on.
"Now I'mma tell the world, tell em
I'mma tell it everywhere I go
Tell the world, tell em
Yea I'mma billboard
Tell the world, tell em
Cast Him like a radio
Tell the world you are to know
I'm brand new
Uh, I know one thing's true
I don't even really deserve to know you
But I... I'm a witness that you did this
And I'm brand new so I... I'm ready to go
And I'mma tell the world what they need to know
A slave to myself but you let me go
I tried gettin high but it left me low
You did, what they could never do
You cleaned up my soul and gave me life, I'm so brand new
And that's all that matters
I aint love you first, but you first loved me
In my heart I cursed ya, but you set me free
I gave you no reason to give me new seasons, to give me new life, new
Breathin
But you hung there bleedin
And you died for my lies, and my cheatin, my lust, and my greedin
What is a man, huh? that you're mindful of em?
And what do I have to deserve this love? . . . ""Wow! Same set! Wanna take a break?" Leo asked while taking off his own headphones.
"Yeah." I nodded and set my headphones on the over sized mic. I opened the sound booth door and ran to the bathroom.
_______
Pushing the door with my name on it open, the boys' chuckling stopped.
"What took you so long?! You've been in there for ten minutes!" Leo said as if it was an hour.
"Well, after I emptied my bladder, I stood in front of the mirror. Trying to force one of my eyebrows up. I can now lift each eyebrow by itself!" I laughed as Niall, Louis and Zayn tried to do the same.
"Sweet!" Leo laughed and sat at one of the couches in the room after he turned the lights off in the sound room. I yawned and crawled onto Niall's lap, letting him play with my hair as he talked to the other occupants. I buried my face into his chest before darkness consumed me.
____
"Lily? Lily, honey, wake up. Simon's here with some friends." an Irish voice quietly woke we up from my deep, exhaustion spurred sleep.
"I'm up." I stretched my arms out and opened my eyes, met by Simon's "friends". "B-b-b-" I stuttered loudly.
"You can call my Britt." the Britt Nicole stuck her hand out for me to shake.
"And I'm Cody!" His Australian accent was music to my ears.
"And I have one more, who should be coming." Simon leaned his head out the door and nodded.
The newly twenty year old girl came in and I flushed a bright red. "Seriously?" I said and stared at my guests.
Britt Nicole - Christian music mogal.
Cody Simpson - Great pop singer with a wicked accent.
and lastly
Selena Gomez - Enough said.
Liam helped me up and I stood, stiffening my knees on purpose to prevent future falls.
"Sorry, I'm late." Selena's cheery tone said as she waved to me.
I waved back, "Why are you three here?"
"They're here to watch you record the second EP song." Simon stated and my jaw hit the floor.
"E-EP? This is news to me!" I scoffed and looked at the boys as they shrugged.
"Yes. The song you did with your friend . . . L.A. Boyz." Simon recollected, "We will piece together that song," he pointed to the empty sound booth, "And your new one, making your first EP."
I nodded and made my way to the sound booth. "Drums first so I can get the beat." I told Leo and sat at the nice drum set. Thankfully, I make my own music.
He nodded as Simon, Cody, Britt and Selena sat down and the boys introduced themselves to a beaming Britt.
_______
I finished guitar, drums, piano, violin and mixtape with Zayn so I finally stood in front of the mic, slipping the headphones over my curly blonde hair.
"Okay, 1-2-3." I whispered to myself and started singing my song.
I shot a thumbs-up to Leo through the window as everyone but Simon and Harry started dancing.
"For those days we felt like a mistake,
Those times when loves what you hate,
Somehow,
We keep marching on.
For those nights when I couldn't be there,
I've made it harder to know that you know,
That somehow,
We'll keep moving on. . . . "For what it's worth, lets leave it as this:
I'm asleep and dreaming, never wake me up.
(A.N.) SHORT AND SWEET, NOT MY BEST WORK, BUT MY BRAIN IS IN OVERDRIVE WITH CHAPTERS. The second song is in the EL, the third is Marchin' On by One Republic!
